I must say, the afterlife is not how the Covenant describes it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis isn\u2019t the afterlife,\u201d answered Metal Sonic. \u201cIt\u2019s a cathedral that serves as cover for my underground base of operations. I\u2019m surprised we\u2019re alive. I thought your enemies said it was a black hole. Must be the Emerald\u2019s doing.\u201d Metal Sonic then remembered. He then fished out the purple Chaos Emerald. \u201cSpeaking of which, I have a nice power source.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWhy a cathedral?\u201d asked Shockwave. \u201cI never took you to be religious.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI\u2019m slightly religious,\u201d explained Metal Sonic. \u201cI view organics as heathens to my gods, order, harmony, purity, and logic.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAnd you view a cathedral like this to be a symbol of order?\u201d continued Shockwave.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe design is orderly,\u201d replied Metal Sonic. \u201cIn 3227, the Echidna elders decreed the place to be built first so the city can be built around it. They wanted everyone to be equally close to the gods. I like that; the geometry of belief.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI thought they lived on Angel Island,\u201d recalled Shockwave.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis was before Angel Island,\u201d elaborated Metal Sonic. \u201cYou see; this spire is just one of seven spires forming a perfect heptagon with a dome in the center. The Chaos Emeralds would originally sit on top of the spires while the Master Emerald would be suspended inside the dome. Too many church robbers came to the city to take the Emeralds, so the Echidnas took them, found a patch of land for them to live on, made an altar for the Emeralds, and raised that bit of land to become Angel Island. Under this rock, I built my own church, one of steel and wires and codes.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cEggman would probably say he built you too well,\u201d mused Shockwave. \u201cYou act like the next step in Mobius\u2019 evolution.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cTo repair the world,\u201d answered Metal Sonic. \u201cAlso\u2026yeah.\u201d He then pressed a button on his wrist and they teleported to an underground base full of other Metal Sonics. \u201cI would offer you the door,\u201d joked Metal Sonic, \u201cbut my doors aren\u2019t built for robots of larger stature than mine.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWhat intrigues me the most is that you\u2019re a hive consciousness,\u201d remarked Shockwave.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAh,\u201d called one of the Metal Sonic clones, \u201cso you found my hive code.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cYours is a bit\u2026simplistic\u2026compared to what I\u2019ve worked on,\u201d explained Shockwave.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI don\u2019t exactly have the resources you had back then,\u201d answered the first body, Metal Sonic Prime. Shockwave had to agree. She then noticed tubes full of battered Metal Sonic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cPrevious bodies?\u201d she asked. \u201cI suppose I see the logic behind it. You wish to keep track of whatever was wrong with the other bodies to make a far superior one.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cBelieve it or not,\u201d replied Metal Sonic, \u201cthis battered form is 7.0. 8.0 was just completed when we arrived.\u201d He strode over to an empty tube.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI\u2019ve looked through your files,\u201d answered Shockwave, \u201cand notice that Sonic is your priority. Eggman\u2019s files showed that the hedgehog is tenacious and yours say that he\u2019s also a master of all seven Emeralds.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWhich we\u2019re going to use against him,\u201d planned Metal Sonic. \u201cUltimately, he will fall. I have what Sonic and his biological ilk don\u2019t, harmony. Even Eggman\u2019s empire is discordant, disconnected, and decentralized. However, even he and Sonic teamed up to defeat me, once or twice.\u201d He stepped into the tube. \u201cSonic, in particular, has wounded me. I give him full marks for that. But, as the saying goes, what doesn\u2019t kill you,\u201d Metal Sonic\u2019s eye went dark and a completed, streamlined form strode forward and closed the tube, \u201cjust makes you stronger,\u201d completed the new Metal Sonic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cHow will we use the emeralds against Sonic and the Autobots?\u201d asked Shockwave. Metal Sonic was about to reply before she started twitching and sparking involuntarily. She then transformed into vehicle mode and the sparking and twitching stopped.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201c\u2026The Hell was that?!\u201d yelped Metal Sonic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cEnergon field build up,\u201d gasped Shockwave. \u201cThere\u2019s too much of my main fuel source, Energon. The radiation it puts out is off the scale, so it makes me short out.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cEnergon?\u201d quizzed Metal Sonic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cA blue crystal with raw power in it,\u201d explained Shockwave. \u201cOnce refined, it is a Transformer\u2019s lifeblood and ammunition.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI see,\u201d realized Metal Sonic, \u201cthe Energon on this planet is giving off so much power that you overload on it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIn robot mode, yes,\u201d elaborated Shockwave. \u201cIn vehicle mode, I run internal repairs to sort out any damage to my systems. I need parts to build an Energon shield so I can stay in robot mode indefinitely while in a base of operations.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAny parts that can be manufactured here?\u201d asked Metal Sonic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cYes,\u201d replied Shockwave.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThen give me the list of parts and assembly instructions,\u201d offered Metal Sonic, \u201cand we\u2019ll build it. Priority one should be having my ally at 100%.\u201d Shockwave saw the logic and complied. After a brief review of the list, Metal Sonic\u2019s drone bodies got to work.
