Optimus had heard the report on the away team\u2019s failure against Starscream. Still, Ironhide made it back in one piece, so he couldn\u2019t complain. Ironhide did that for him. \u201cIf I hadn\u2019t tripped, I would had him!\u201d griped Ironhide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cYou\u2019re alive right now,\u201d countered Optimus. \u201cI NEED all bots alive. We\u2019ll focus on the tripping later.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI managed to retrieve the offending object,\u201d reported Blackarachnia. She pulled a rock out of her subspace pocket. When she showed it off, it started pulsing in a blue light. As it pulsed, so did the Matrix. \u201cOkay, that\u2019s freaky!\u201d yelped Blackarachnia. Optimus commed Perceptor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cYo, Perceptor, if I could pull you away for a minute,\u201d he called, \u201cI need you to examine something for me. Give it as much testing as you need.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAt once,\u201d confirmed Perceptor. At that point, a four-legged walking science lab came up with the oversized microscope lens pointing at a tray underneath. \u201cAll right, place the object on the tray,\u201d directed a male Mobian Labrador in scientist clothing. This was Perceptor\u2019s holo-form. Optimus put the rock onto the tray. \u201c\u2026A rock?\u201d mumbled Perceptor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cA rock that pulsed with blue light in sync with the Matrix,\u201d explained Optimus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAh, a mystery rock!\u201d cheered Perceptor, more excited. \u201cFret not! I shall place a scientific explanation to this rock or die trying!\u201d He then stomped off at top speed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cDon\u2019t spend all day in alt-mode!\u201d warned Optimus. \u201cYou know how it puts a bot on the fritz!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThat bot can be absent-minded,\u201d sighed Blackarachnia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Over with the Cons, Starscream was patched up and was \u201cassisting\u201d Shockwave. \u201cTick tock, Shockwave, TICK TOCK!\u201d he grumbled. \u201cMegatron wants results and, given that his original plans were set back and he doesn\u2019t take failure well, I would say we cannot afford to disappoint him!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201c\u2018We\u2019?\u201d repeated Shockwave as she waved a wand scanner over the two Emeralds. \u201cUnless nagging counts, I haven\u2019t seen you lift a finger.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI am the one who gave Megatron the Emeralds!\u201d insisted Starscream. \u201cDo I really need to prove myself further by deciphering how to tap into their energies?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWell, perhaps if my research weren\u2019t sidelined by someone\u2019s constant screeching,\u201d hissed Shockwave, losing patience, \u201cI would be further along by now!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOh, just give it here!\u201d snapped Starscream as he snatched the red emerald. He tried concentrating hard, then resorted to banging his fist on the table.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOh, gee, why did I think of that?\u201d remarked Shockwave, sarcasm dripping heavily from her voice. Starscream then punched Shockwave in the face! Big mistake! Shockwave grabbed the purple Emerald and reeled back for a punch. Starscream did the same and their fists connected, causing a massive Chaos Blast and knocking them on opposite sides of the room. \u201cDo you think?\u201d asked Shockwave. Starscream and Shockwave, after picking themselves up, got into a ready stance, facing a wall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOn three ,\u201d directed Starscream. \u201cOne.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cTwo,\u201d counted Shockwave.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cTHREE!\u201d shouted the two of them together. They then punched the wall and created an explosion, making a large hole in the wall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWell, now,\u201d mused Starscream. \u201cIt looks like we have progress.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe sudden burst of power seems to be coming from our Spark energies,\u201d theorized Shockwave. \u201cHowever, I have no evidence to support that theory.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThen don\u2019t let me disturb your research,\u201d replied Starscream as he walked out of the lab. He then tried to ring up Eggman. \u201cDoctor, Shockwave has made significant progress and a discovery has resulted in a new hole in the lab. She requires a clean-up crew.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cDoctor Eggman is indisposed,\u201d called Metal Sonic\u2019s voice. \u201cHe\u2019s engaged with Sonic.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOn whose authority?!\u201d bellowed Starscream.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cHe IS the master of Robotropolis,\u201d replied Metal, \u201cmuch to my annoyance. He can come and go as he wishes. Metal Sonic out.\u201d The call ended as a repair crew came up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis is why we never bothered dealing with humans in the first place!\u201d snarled Starscream. \u201cThey\u2019re too impulsive! The experience with that Cobra organization was interaction enough!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cRun, run, run, as fast as you can, Egghead!\u201d taunted Sonic as he zoomed after Eggman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cMUST YOU?!\u201d bellowed Eggman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWell, I AM the hero of Mobius, so, yeah!\u201d replied Sonic as he flashed his trademark grin. He was about to spin-dash the Egg-mobile when a purple streak of light caused a medium sized crater to appear in front of him. Megatron then came out of hiding in his alt-mode. His holo-form\u2019s feet were on the driver-sticks as he sipped a soda out of a straw.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cCan you even taste that?\u201d asked Eggman as they headed off with Sonic in pursuit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cHolo-forms simulate everything for an organic body, so yeah, I can taste it and process it as well as food,\u201d explained Megatron.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201c\u2026How?\u201d quizzed Eggman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cLet\u2019s just say \u2018magic\u2019 and leave it at that,\u201d dismissed Megatron.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI\u2019ll find out how one of these days!\u201d boasted Eggman. \u201cI DO have an i.q. of 300!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cNever mind the fact,\u201d thought Megatron, \u201cthat i.q\u2019s mean nothing without hard work, something you lack.\u201d Megatron took another sip when he got a call. He lazily used his holo-form\u2019s foot to press the accept button. The voice and face of Optimus came through!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cCan\u2019t keep me angry, Mega-twerp!\u201d he laughed. Megatron did a spit-take and seized the controls, hitting the accelerator.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cMEGATRON!\u201d he bellowed. \u201cYou know my name is Megatron! I told you that when I left the Autobots! You\u2019re doing this on purpose!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cDoing what, Mega-twerp?\u201d giggled Optimus. He then appeared in vehicle mode and was led on a chase through the canyon. Sonic ran alongside him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cKnuckles told me you were confined to base,\u201d remarked Sonic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAfter a training session,\u201d explained Optimus, \u201cRatchet gave me another psych eval, one with better results. I was cleared for duty soon after. The reason for my confining was\u2026 YIPE!\u201d He braked hard when he saw the large pit that opened into lava! He transformed as well and managed to stop Sonic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWhatever you have planned,\u201d laughed Megatron as he transformed on the other side of the lava pit, \u201cit will end here!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cPrepare to be destroyed by Burn-bot!\u201d cheered Eggman. A massive red robot with spikes and pincher-styled claws came up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cYou are, of course, free to scream in agony as Burn-bot reduces you two to ash!\u201d boasted Megatron.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cHow am I supposed to do that?\u201d asked Burn-bot in a monotone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWhat?\u201d yelped Megatron as he was thrown for a loop. \u201cWhat do you mean how are you supposed to do that?! Point your flamethrowers at Optimus and Sonic and unleash Hell!\u201d Burn-bot cocked its head as Megatron got a nagging suspicion. \u201cDoctor, Burn-bot DOES have flamethrowers, right?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cFlamethrowers?\u201d stammered Eggman. \u201cEr, well, no\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAcid?!\u201d snapped Megatron. \u201cIncendiary grenades?!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cNo, no, no!\u201d replied Eggman. \u201cClaws! It has claws! Very painful claws!\u201d Burn-bot then opened and closed its claws.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cA bot called Burn-bot, and it has no means of burning,\u201d sighed Optimus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cNot one of Egghead\u2019s best,\u201d mumbled Sonic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cYou should have named it Claw-bot! Or the Lacerator! Pit, even Pinchatron 9000!\u201d protested Megatron. \u201cBut\u2026BURN-BOT?!?! That\u2019s just false adver\u2026!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI NAME THE ROBOTS, MEGATRON!\u201d said Eggman. \u201cBurn-bot, ATTACK!\u201d Burn-bot then went on the offensive and leapt onto Sonic and Optimus\u2019 side of the lava pit. Optimus gave a smirk as Sonic chuckled. They charged at Burn-bot while Burn-bot swiped at them with its claws. Optimus grabbed Burn-bot and flicked it away, sadly leaving him open to a slash from Megatron. Optimus grabbed his axes and combined them into their single form. It was axe against concealed sword. Optimus grinned as he curled up and spin-dashed Megatron.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cHEY! THAT\u2019S MY MOVE!\u201d shouted Sonic as he spin-dashed Megatron as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cPesky annoyances!\u201d roared Megatron as he sent a dark energy wave at them. Optimus and Sonic leapt out of the way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cYou know, some would say you\u2019re getting addicted to Dark Energon!\u201d mused Optimus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cSo it would seem!\u201d agreed Megatron as he used his fusion cannon. Optimus then grabbed his gun and fired.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cYou do realize that there\u2019s no room for cover here, right?\u201d asked Optimus. \u201cThis place is pretty open!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThen why are there plenty of rocks littering the canyon?\u201d countered Megatron as he took cover. \u201cYou can\u2019t stop my plans!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cTell me, does your plan involve a giant, purple, robot griffin?\u201d joked Optimus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cNO! Nothing so mundane!\u201d shouted Megatron. \u201cA commander would be unwise to reveal his strategy to the enemy!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cEven if our plans involve\u2026!\u201d continued Eggman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cZIP IT!!\u201d shouted Megatron. \u201cSoundwave, Eggman and I require a ground bridge!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cBut Burn-bot will be destroyed without us!\u201d protested Eggman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cLeave it!\u201d insisted Megatron as the ground bridge opened. They headed into the portal and left Burn-bot. Sonic spin-dashed it into the lava and it gave off a death rattle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cYeah, that\u2019s not gonna haunt me!\u201d gulped Sonic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cDidn\u2019t the robots you smashed make a death rattle?\u201d asked Optimus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cNo,\u201d answered Sonic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI\u2026see,\u201d remarked Optimus. \u201cEggman\u2019s getting sadistic.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cNow what possessed you to charge off like that?!\u201d bellowed Megatron.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI needed to get something for my robots!\u201d replied Eggman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cYou couldn\u2019t send another robot to get it?!\u201d protested Starscream.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt was too delicate for my robots to retrieve!\u201d answered Eggman. \u201cI needed to be subtle!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIf you were going for subtle,\u201d mused Shockwave, \u201cthen the inappropriately named Burn-bot was NOT it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cYou have an idea?\u201d quizzed Megatron.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
