She turned to prepare the meal. \u201cSo, how\u2019s the job so far?\u201d continued Mrs. Barmek.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cDoing okay, considering recent events,\u201d answered Bashoon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cStill thinking about what happened at the hands of the pirates?\u201d guessed Mrs. Barmek as she flipped the steak over.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWell, partially,\u201d replied Bashoon. \u201cThe other part is about that cow turd, Yotek.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cYeah, I heard about your ex-boyfriend\u2019s involvement with the Splitters,\u201d recalled Mrs. Barmek.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAnd the Goblin Imperium STILL hasn\u2019t made a decision on whether or not it made a mistake in liquidating our original assets?\u201d asked Bashoon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cSorry, but no,\u201d sighed Mrs. Barmek as she flipped the steak a second time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIs it wrong that I still feel angry and betrayed by my own people?\u201d quizzed Bashoon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cNo, your feelings are legitimate,\u201d assured Mrs. Barmek as she added some butter to the potatoes before mashing them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI\u2019m just not sure if I WANT to return to Dwelga after my stint in Realmfleet is over,\u201d sighed Bashoon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWhere will you go?\u201d inquired Mrs. Barmek as she filled a glass with root beer and scooped out some vanilla ice cream.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI don\u2019t know,\u201d mumbled Bashoon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWell, there ARE travelers on this ship alone,\u201d mused Mrs. Barmek as she set the meal in front of Bashoon. Bashoon then took her fork and knife and started eating. \u201cMaybe one of them could offer a place to stay,\u201d suggested Mrs. Barmek.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI\u2019ll think it over,\u201d declared Bashoon after she swallowed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI WOULD suggest that you talk to the Imperium,\u201d suggested Mrs. Barmek.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWhy would I want to do that?\u201d muttered Bashoon as her second bite stopped in front of her mouth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cBecause you will carry your feelings with you forever if you don\u2019t,\u201d warned Mrs. Barmek. \u201cRight now, those feelings are heavy.\u201d Bashoon considered her mother\u2019s words as she ate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Arsha was trying to unwind at Jenthay\u2019s Resort, not THE best in the Over-realm, but certainly ONE of the best. Jenthay, the Sprite running the place, offered a pass to Arsha and her crew when Thengo suggested some relaxation would help. The resort\u2019s beach\/pool was in a special part of the tree that gave off natural sunlight so people could naturally tan. It DID bring the risks associated with a beach\u2019s sun, so Arsha lathered up in sunscreen. She smoothed out the skirt of her bikini as she picked up her book. Try as she might, she couldn\u2019t concentrate on the book\u2019s content. She sighed as she gave up and set the book aside on the blanket. She then laid flat on her back as she increased the power to her shades. \u201cReal smart, Arsha,\u201d she muttered to herself. \u201cYou survive a harrowing ordeal on an island with a beach and where do you go? To a resort with a beach. What was I thinking?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cYou don\u2019t look like a happy girl,\u201d observed a voice. Arsha sat up and turned to see Hanako!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cMama!\u201d cheered Arsha as she ran towards her. They hugged for a bit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cHow\u2019s my Precious One?\u201d asked Hanako.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI\u2019m&#8230;doing all right, given what happened,\u201d mumbled Arsha as she broke off the embrace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cYes, I heard about what happened from Thengo,\u201d explained Hanako. \u201cI take it this is your first experience with mortality?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt\u2019s not mortality that has me feeling this way,\u201d replied Arsha, \u201cit\u2019s the fact that those five crewmembers died because I didn\u2019t screen Melgem enough! I\u2019m not sure if their families will accept that my condolence letters came from the heart!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cYes,\u201d remarked Hanako as she laid out her own blanket. \u201cI understand why you would say that but I don\u2019t agree.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cYou do?\u201d asked Arsha, sensing that Hanako understood on a deeper level than she initially thought.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cArsha, do you know why I moved to the Mid-realm in the first place?\u201d inquired Hanako.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cYou were so smitten with Dad,\u201d answered Arsha, \u201cthat you couldn\u2019t imagine life without him, just as he couldn\u2019t imagine life without you. This was during the Rooka\/Gamfinar incident, right?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt was,\u201d confirmed Hanako, \u201cand your father was certainly the impetus. However, I was thinking on leaving anyway. After my parents died, there was nothing left for me. Midiriki became obsessed with trying to keep Mystic Tails afloat to the point of not wanting to see me. No one wanted me or my skill set as an administrator. I couldn\u2019t find a decent job here in the Over-realm, so I was thinking about trying my luck with another Realm. Your dad then offered me a once temporary position on the&nbsp;<em>Endeavor<\/em>&nbsp;during the Rooka\/Gamfinar incident and we hit it off.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWasn\u2019t that incident declared a total disaster after all the casualties were tallied?\u201d quizzed Arsha.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt was,\u201d conceded Hanako, \u201cbut I still wanted to stay with him, thinking the rewards of a Realmfleet Officer outweighed the risks.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIf the risks CAN be outweighed by said Realmfleet Officer,\u201d sighed Arsha. \u201cSometimes the loss of life is too much for that Officer.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAlso true,\u201d replied Hanako, \u201cas the&nbsp;<em>Endeavor<\/em>\u2019s former Chief Medical Officer can attest to. So, the question is: do you feel as if you\u2019ve lost too many under your command?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI don\u2019t know,\u201d mumbled Arsha.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWell, if you DO feel that way,\u201d continued Hanako, \u201cwhat kind of Captain will you be in the face of that?\u201d Arsha considered her mother\u2019s words up until her thoughts were interrupted by the tree rocking. Everyone tumbled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWhat in the Depths?\u201d swore Arsha as she snapped her fingers and her bikini was exchanged for her dress. She and Hanako made her way to an Observation Balcony, a hole in the tree that allows someone to see what\u2019s going on outside, to see a Kitsune in full armor attacking the tree. \u201cWhat the?! I thought Kitsunes were buddy-buddy with ALL Fae subspecies!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe are!\u201d insisted Hanako. \u201cI don\u2019t know what\u2019s gotten this one to attack!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe have to stop that person!\u201d declared Arsha. She then made her way to Rellmeer\u2019s private Observation Balcony with Rellmeer making a call to the Fae Republic\u2019s Air Force.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cGet the attacker OUT of our territory!\u201d she ordered her troops. \u201cI don\u2019t care how it\u2019s done, as long as the intruder stays alive! Understood, Rantar?!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cUnderstood, My Lady,\u201d replied Chief Master Sergeant Rantar of the Fae Republic\u2019s Air Force. Rellmeer then hung up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cYour Majesty!\u201d called Arsha. Rellmeer then caught sight of Arsha and Hanako.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cPlease tell me you have an idea!\u201d hissed Rellmeer, feeling betrayed that a Kitsune would do this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cLet me talk to the Kitsune!\u201d suggested Arsha. \u201cWhatever grievance it has, I\u2019m sure I can figure it out!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201c&#8230;Very well,\u201d replied Rellmeer. She then used her magic to place Arsha outside and restored her to her natural height. Even then, Arsha was still a foot shorter than the Kitsune.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIdentify yourself!\u201d she demanded. The Kitsune replied by swinging a fist at Arsha. \u201cNot in an identifying mood, eh?\u201d quipped Arsha. \u201cHave it your way!\u201d She snapped her fingers, teleporting her hairpiece into its drawer and summoning her armor. She then went on the offensive, managing to push back the intruder. \u201cI repeat, identify yourself!\u201d she commanded. \u201cWhy are you attacking the Capital Tree of the Fae Republic?!\u201d The intruder didn\u2019t answer.
