After the meeting had ended, Rodimus had pulled Hot Rod to the basement, filled with all sorts of stuff for the Autobots that had been relegated to storage. \u201cUnplug your exhaust pipe, Old Me,\u201d scoffed Hot Rod. \u201cI\u2019m a star!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis is a military operation!\u201d snarled Rodimus. \u201cNot an Alien Hunt! <\/em>set!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cI\u2019m only the greatest bot here!\u201d countered Hot Rod. \u201cThat kid, on the other hand, seems to be a little puffed up in the carburetor!\u201d Rodimus then slapped Hot Rod across the face.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThat \u2018kid\u2019,\u201d he corrected as Hot Rod rubbed his cheek, \u201cis your Prime! A little humility MIGHT earn some respect!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cDad always said \u2018Fume-running bots take in Energon, humble bots serve it!\u2019\u201d argued Hot Rod.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cDad was a coward!\u201d roared Rodimus. \u201cYou let Nyon and Ki-Aleta make us an even bigger one!\u201d That did it! Hot Rod\u2019s hand retracted into his forearm and a buzzsaw replaced it as he slashed across Rodimus\u2019 face.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cNever\u2026EVER\u2026call me that again!\u201d growled Hot Rod. Rodimus then swept his leg at Hot Rod\u2019s and tripped him up. Hot Rod\u2019s hand returned, and he grabbed Rodimus\u2019 leg, pulling him to the floor. The two bots then wrestled, hell-bent on tearing the other a new one. While their fight went on, Optimus, Prowl, Strongarm, Kup, Ironhide, and Chromia dashed into the basement. Kup, Strongarm, and Ironhide pulled Hot Rod off Rodimus and Optimus, Prowl, and Chromia held Rodimus back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThat\u2019s enough!\u201d shouted Optimus. \u201cTHAT\u2019S ENOUGH!\u201d The two fighters stopped struggling for just a second. \u201cI don\u2019t know what in the Pit has gotten into you idiots,\u201d the two fighters opened their mouths to explain, \u201cand, frankly, I don\u2019t care!\u201d Optimus interjected before either of them could speak. \u201cYou two are Autobot soldiers! I thought we were all above petty infighting! Prowl! Strongarm! Have Ratchet look them over in the brig!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cYes, Sir!\u201d replied Prowl and Strongarm as they led Hot Rod and Rodimus to the brig.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cTeletraan,\u201d called Ironhide, \u201cpull up any footage from before the fight.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cGot it,\u201d replied Teletraan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cDisplay,\u201d ordered Optimus. A screen played the footage of Hot Rod and Rodimus\u2019 conversation before they started trading blows. \u201cThat\u2019s twice now,\u201d muttered Optimus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cSo, he still hates himself over Nyon and Ki-Aleta,\u201d mused Kup.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cYou know why he gets so defensive over those names?\u201d asked Optimus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cHe hasn\u2019t told you?\u201d quizzed Kup.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cNo,\u201d replied Optimus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cSir, those were his two greatest disasters,\u201d explained Kup. \u201cIt\u2019s why he acts the way he does.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201c\u2026I think you better tell me,\u201d directed Optimus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n While Optimus had to discipline Rodimus and Hot Rod, Galvatron had led Megatron back to Mobius. They arrived in a cave system that offered little light. \u201cFor Primus\u2019 sake!\u201d grumbled Megatron. \u201cMust you drag me through caves?!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThese caves,\u201d assured Galvatron, \u201cwill lead to a great power that helped defeat Unicron before!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cOh, please!\u201d scoffed Megatron. \u201cThe chances of that are astronomically dismal!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cI found its remains in my time!\u201d insisted Galvatron. \u201cIt was discovered whole a few days ago!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cAnd you told the crews not to tell me immediately?\u201d quizzed Megatron. \u201cLast time I checked; ALL FINDINGS WERE TO BE REPORTED AT ONCE!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThis one needed,\u201d argued Galvatron, \u201cto be kept under the radar, since Eggman is sure to bungle it!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cOh, come on!\u201d protested Megatron. \u201cWhat could possibly be so important that Eggman didn\u2019t need to know until later?!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cObserve!\u201d directed Galvatron as he gestured to a large cave opening. A blue glow emitted from inside the cave, giving Megatron a sense of curiosity. He entered the cave\u2026his jaw dropped, and his optics widened when he saw the source of the glow. Embedded in the rockface was a massive cube that dwarfed him. From what he could see, the material seemed to be a mix of stone and metal and the face of the cube that was uncovered was coated in hieroglyphs of an ancient time. Megatron turned to Galvatron as the future Decepticon entered the cave. \u201cI had to confirm my findings before anyone got a chance,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThen, this is\u2026?\u201d stammered Megatron.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cIt is,\u201d answered Galvatron. \u201cIn my time, Unicron had shattered it, thus rendering it useless for any immediate attacks. We had gathered the pieces, but we don\u2019t have a vessel to utilize its power.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201c\u2026We need a guard posted,\u201d declared Megatron, \u201cand a means of getting it out of the rock.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThe comms still work down here,\u201d revealed Galvatron. Megatron then called the moon-base.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cMegatron to base!\u201d he demanded. \u201cDetail a guard platoon and prepare an extraction team!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cWhat for, Lord Megatron, Dude?\u201d asked Soundwave\u2019s voice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cGalvatron has just made the find of the age,\u201d replied Megatron. \u201cRight now, I\u2019m staring\u2026at the Allspark!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Optimus approached Hot Rod\u2019s cell in the brig with Kup on his heels. He stared at the upstart Velocitronian for a good minute before speaking. \u201cKup told me what he knew about Nyon and Ki-Aleta,\u201d he began. \u201cHowever, he\u2019s only got bits and pieces. You never told him the full story. Care to fill him and me in?\u201d Hot Rod said nothing. \u201c\u2026Well?\u201d Still nothing. \u201c\u2026All right, let\u2019s try again with Rodimus.\u201d He turned to Rodimus\u2019 cell. \u201cWilling to help?\u201d Rodimus said nothing, then sighed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThey were my greatest failures,\u201d he explained. What were you doing there?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201c\u2026Recon work for Velocitronian Command,\u201d replied Rodimus. \u201cI was stationed there because there were rumors of a Velocitronian Decepticon force about to commit genocide on the populace because of their natural artistic expression being used to further the Autobot cause. I was only 2,002 at the time, a brasher upstart with delusions of heroism. I thought that, if I could avert the crisis, I would be a hero. I had confirmed the rumors to Velocitronian Command and further explained that the Velocitronian Decepticons had gotten ahold of Vamparc Ribbons.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cVamparc Ribbons?!\u201d repeated Optimus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThose things that drain a bot of their Energon and use it as a weapon?!\u201d gulped Kup.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThe same,\u201d answered Rodimus. \u201cI was ordered to return to Velocitron and then return to Nyon with a full platoon. …I didn\u2019t. I went straight to the Decepticon Command Center in Nyon and attacked the base single-handedly.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cOkay, I\u2019m not exactly a brilliant strategist,\u201d remarked Optimus, \u201cbut even I would have been hard-pressed to do something that dumb!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cI don\u2019t know,\u201d mused Kup, \u201cSonic told me about how you stormed Eggman\u2019s base when you lost your magic.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201c\u2026I am going to SKIN that rat!\u201d hissed Optimus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cIn any event, I ran through the base, thinking my actions would save everyone,\u201d continued Rodimus. \u201c\u2026They didn\u2019t. That world\u2019s got storms charged with ionic energy over its rocky surface, making our scanning equipment useless. We had gotten past the dead Omega Guardians and were ready to enter the Magnificence\u2019s resting place. Dealer stayed behind to watch our backs while I took Download, Gizmo, and Backbeat inside the tomb. We approached the Magnificence and took it from its resting place\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cYou SAW the Magnificence?\u201d asked Optimus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cIt looked like a Transformers brain module,\u201d explained Hot Rod. \u201cI took it, then it all went to the Pit. Dealer tried to contact us, telling us to get out of there, but the transmission was cut off by his dying screams. At that point, the Magnificence didn\u2019t matter. I knew I had to get everyone out. We ran, trying to avoid the traps as fast as we could, but Gizmo lost his head to an axe from the ceiling, Download was dumped down a pit that was flooded with acid, and Backbeat was speared from the floor. All I could do was run and run and run until I returned to the ship. I flew solo, gave my report, then left the Autobots to return to what really matters to a True Velocitronian; the racing circuit.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cAnd that regret has haunted me!\u201d growled Rodimus. \u201cYou fled like a coward!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cMy old life was better!\u201d shouted Hot Rod.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cWas it?!\u201d argued Rodimus. \u201cCan you really look anyone in the eye and say that you made a mistake in joining the Autobot Militia?!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cYes!\u201d declared Hot Rod. \u201cAn entire city died because of me! He told me vague descriptions of a mission that went awry. In any case, Jazz is living proof that there WERE survivors of Nyon. His grandmother, Songbird, led as many bots as she could out of Nyon through the catacombs below the city. She helped everyone find new refuge in Praxis after liberating the city.
