\u201cGood to see you again, Sonic!\u201d returned Chip. The little creature then flew around Optimus. \u201cWow! The Autobots are huge! Look at those hands! And those feet! What\u2019s your name?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI\u2019m Optimus Prime, the leader of the Autobots. I understand you\u2019re a herald of sorts?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAs Light Gaia, that IS what I do,\u201d answered Chip. \u201cI\u2019m the messenger of light, hope, and rebirth, made to oppose Dark Gaia, Unicron, in your language.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWhat\u2019s your connection to him anyway?\u201d asked Sonic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cLong ago, my creator, Gaia, encountered Unicron when he was drifting through space. They fought and Gaia was almost beaten until she gathered rocks and minerals from space and created the planet to keep Unicron imprisoned. She created me to be his jailor. Every millions of years, Unicron would try to escape, and I would keep him tethered to the planet using the Seven Lights of the Earth, the Chaos Emeralds. This has always been the way\u2026until his servants arrived.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe Terrorcons,\u201d remarked Optimus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cExactly. Unicron has a plan to transfer his essence into another body, but he needs his servants to gather an enormous amount of power to give him the energy needed to jump into the game after the transfer.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe Chaos Emeralds and the Allspark,\u201d guessed Sonic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cActually, it was a case of either\/or. The Allspark is the most powerful choice.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cSo the Chaos Emeralds were a backup?\u201d asked Optimus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThey were, now he has to rely on a large amount of Dark Energon.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWhere\u2019s he gonna find that?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cCould someone explain Dark Energon to me?\u201d asked Sonic. \u201cI\u2019ve only heard it mentioned by you guys. Is it that purple crystal Cliffjumper sometimes makes?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt is,\u201d confirmed Optimus. \u201cIt\u2019s a powerful substance that can corrupt living beings with its use.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cSo, not a good idea for a super-fuel,\u201d remarked Sonic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cNot even the Decepticons want to use it. The only one permitted to even be near it is the Decepticon Lord. They always carry a badge of it on their person as a counter to the Energon crystal within the Matrix.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt\u2019s also known as Unicron\u2019s blood,\u201d supplied Chip. Sonic\u2019s eyes went wide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cBut if Unicron\u2019s at the center of\u2026wait, if it\u2019s his blood, why hasn\u2019t it spread all over the planet?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cBecause I\u2019ve been tempering the spread,\u201d answered Chip. \u201cBut, I can\u2019t get it all whenever he wakes up. There\u2019s always some that I\u2019ve missed.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAnd over millions of years, it will grow,\u201d realized Optimus. \u201cUnicron may have enough already.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAnd he needs bodies to make his own,\u201d continued Chip. \u201cSeven Normals and six Specials, so he\u2019s been boasting. I hate to say it, but he\u2019s gotten the seven Normals during the battles that ended your first war. Plucked them straight from the Auto-troopers.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cSo where do the six Specials come into play?\u201d asked Optimus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cStraxus found them among the Decepticons and told them that Megatron asked for them.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOh no!\u201d gulped Sonic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cNow we REALLY need to discuss terms of a truce with the Cons!\u201d declared Optimus. \u201cWho knows what deeds they\u2019re plotting!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Over on the Decepticon Moon Base, Megatron and Metal Sonic followed Eggman into the bowels of the moon. \u201cDoctor, what could be so important that you needed to interrupt my strategy meeting with Galvatron?\u201d asked Megatron.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAnd I have duties to perform as well,\u201d remarked Metal Sonic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cLook,\u201d replied Eggman, \u201cit\u2019s clear that the Autobots have a slight advantage over us when it comes to starships. They\u2019ve got the Ark<\/em>, the Blue Typhoon<\/em>, and the Fang <\/em>as well as an orbital station with enough power to devastate the planet if some lunatic decides to do so. We\u2019ve got a moon base with no means of turning its weapons onto the Space Colony ARK and we only have Scarship and the Nemesis<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cSo, what do you intend to do about it?\u201d asked Megatron. Eggman grinned, then they arrived at a door. Eggman keyed in a code on a number pad and the door opened to reveal a hangar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cBehold, my pet project!\u201d he cackled. The hangar held three ships! One was purple and had massive drills on the nose cone and wings, the second looked like a starship from Star <\/em>Trek, and the third evoked an Athenian Trireme. Megatron and Metal Sonic stared in amazement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201c\u2026Okay, this IS worth my time!\u201d said Megatron.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cAnd that\u2019s not all!\u201d continued Eggman. \u201cThey can combine to form a more massive ship! You guys wanna see the bridges?\u201d Megatron and Metal Sonic nodded furiously. \u201cI thought so!\u201d The three were then caught up in a teleporter beam and appeared inside the bridge of the drill-ship. \u201cThis baby is a Fortress<\/em>-class ship, designed to go into planets and come up from under cities and capable of Warp 11!\u201d They then appeared in the Egg-sterprise bridge. \u201cHere is the Federation<\/em>-class starship, designed for speed and quick attacks with a maximum of Warp 13!\u201d They then arrived on the bridge of the giant space trireme. \u201cAnd this is my Carrier<\/em>-class ship, modeled after my old Egg Carrier. This baby\u2019s got weapons out the wazoo and has a maximum speed of Warp 12! Now, each ship is designed with a specific Captain in mind. Megatron, I know how much you love explosions and weapons, so I\u2019m giving the Carrier<\/em>-class ship to you. Metal Sonic, like your copy, you have a need for speed, so I\u2019m letting you command the Federation<\/em>-class ship. That leaves me with the Fortress<\/em>-class ship as I prefer to make a slight show of things.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cSlight?\u201d asked Megatron. He then shook his head. \u201cIt doesn\u2019t matter! With the Blood-bringer<\/em>, the Hellfire<\/em>, and the Sonic Boom<\/em>, we\u2019ll have an advantage over the Autobots once we take care of Unicron!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201c\u2026The what?\u201d asked Metal Sonic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThat\u2019s what we\u2019re naming the ships,\u201d explained Megatron.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cJust a minute!\u201d protested Eggman. \u201cHold your horses, you shape-changing shyster! Who gave you the authority to name MY ships?! I designed them! I\u2019ll do the naming!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cHold on, you already have names for the ships?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cOf course! The Carrier<\/em>-class is the Megatron II<\/em>, the Federation<\/em>-class is the Metal Sonic II<\/em>, and the Fortress-<\/em>class is the XL Super Ultra Eggman Deluxe Xtreme<\/em>!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cNO! NO! NO!\u201d shouted Metal Sonic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cMetal Sonic speaks for me!\u201d snarled Megatron as he got up in Eggman\u2019s face. \u201cWhy should we have dull names while you have words like Super, Ultra, Deluxe, and Extreme?! Did you even spell \u2018Extreme\u2019 in the correct manner?!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cWhat\u2019s the idea?!\u201d continued Metal Sonic. \u201cIf the ships are meant for us, then we should name them ourselves!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cWell, excuuuuuuse me, Princess!\u201d snapped Eggman. \u201cI thought I was doing you a favor by naming them for you!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cPerhaps you should have ASKED us during the design phase!\u201d growled Megatron.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cAll right! ALL RIGHT! Don\u2019t get snippy! I\u2019ve got some second and third choices here! What about Slifer, Ra, Obelisk?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cI don\u2019t even play poker, much less a convoluted children\u2019s card game.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cRock, paper, scissors?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cAre you serious?!\u201d asked Metal Sonic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cErm, Eeny, Meeny, Miny! X, Y, Z? How does Egg, Egger, and Eggiest grab ya?
