My team, Team Death, assembled first. \u201cCoordinates set,\u201d reported Rusty. \u201cWhenever you\u2019re ready.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cShall we, Megumi?\u201d offered Death.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cMinna,\u201d I called, \u201cikuze! CHARGE!\u201d We charged into the portal, flying through the rift.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Next up was my team, Team War. \u201cOkay, Michael,\u201d called Elphaba. \u201cYour path is set.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cOff we go!\u201d I called. War gave off a battle-cry as we charged into the portal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I had already taken everyone up to the&nbsp;<em>Virginia<\/em>. I adjusted the rose rings around my wrists as we arrived at the bridge. It was multi-leveled. The pilot sat in the center of the bridge\u2019s lower level in a chair that looked like a multi-axis trainer, the chair astronauts use to simulate disorientation on reentry. The walls had half a TARDIS console built into them. The Captain, me, would sit in a chair on the level above the pilot and the First Officer would sit in the seat behind me, facing the back of the bridge in order to relay commands. I was showing off the consoles, starting from port, then going to bow, then starboard, then stern. \u201cWelcome to the bridge!\u201d I began. \u201cWe\u2019ve only got a limited amount of time, so let\u2019s go through it quickly. The port consoles are science stations, the bow consoles are weapons, the starboard consoles are in charge of communications, and the aft consoles command Engineering when the Chief Engineer is on the bridge. Now, positions. Liam.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAye?\u201d gulped Liam as he was snapped out of his awe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cYou know technical stuff, right?\u201d I asked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201c&#8230;I hit things,\u201d replied Liam. \u201cThey get fixed.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cSplendid,\u201d I answered. \u201cYou\u2019ll work with R9 as an Engineer. Amelia, Pestilence, you work the science stations.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cGot it,\u201d confirmed Pestilence as she and Amelia took their respective consoles.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cHongo, you work the weapons,\u201d I directed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cBoth consoles?\u201d asked Hongo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cOnly one needs to be used,\u201d answered Mikhail, \u201cbut we\u2019re people who prefer back-ups. So, when one explodes, the other kicks in when only one person\u2019s working the weapons.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cNow THAT makes sense,\u201d replied Hongo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cSpeaking of working consoles,\u201d I interjected, \u201cMikhail, you\u2019re in charge of communications.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201c\u0434\u0430,\u201d (Da, yes) confirmed Mikhail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cTanisha, you\u2019ve flown ships before,\u201d I recalled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cNot this type,\u201d remarked Tanisha. \u201cI need to familiarize myself with the controls.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt\u2019s like a video game,\u201d I assured. \u201cThink of the space battles in&nbsp;<em>Star Wars: Battlefront II<\/em>, the 2005 release.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAh, the good one,\u201d remarked Tanisha.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWhere does that leave me?!\u201d protested Scorpainia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt leaves you as my First Officer,\u201d I answered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cYOUR First Officer?!\u201d exclaimed Scorpainia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cMegumi legally transferred ownership of the ship to me,\u201d I explained. \u201cAs such, I\u2019m it\u2019s captain.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI see,\u201d replied Scorpainia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cMake sure my orders are carried out and smack anyone who says or does something stupid,\u201d I instructed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cSmacking limbs ready,\u201d reported Scorpainia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAll right, man your stations,\u201d I directed. \u201cMajel, ship status.\u201d An image of the late Majel-Barret Roddenberry appeared on screen. She was in one of her Lwaxana Troi dresses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cStill in standard orbit,\u201d she reported, \u201cand this a.i. is really, REALLY bored!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIs that&#8230;?!\u201d gasped R9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cNo, it\u2019s the a.i. based off of her,\u201d I answered. \u201cWhen she heard that I needed a shipboard computer, she volunteered. After I explained that it would have a full range of emotions, she planted the idea of an interactive image in Lukas\u2019 head and suggested herself. This was after her guest lecture on how much influence women had in early science fiction. I agreed and so Lukas coded Majel here.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAnd I\u2019ve been stuck orbiting Vorton for a while now,\u201d muttered Majel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWell, our new adventure may stretch your engines,\u201d I replied. \u201cWe\u2019re going to universe 5-U-P-3-R-M-4-R-1-0 to rescue some Tarlaxian explorers.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cOOOH! Going outside Vorton!\u201d cheered Majel. \u201cReady and waiting!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cTanisha,\u201d I instructed as I sat down, \u201cset a course for 5-U-P-3-R-M-4-R-1-0. 50% of speed factor 1 until we\u2019ve cleared orbit, then punch it to speed factor 7.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cGot it,\u201d confirmed Tanisha as she pressed the necessary buttons. As Scorpainia moved to sit behind me, I noticed something.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cHey,\u201d I whispered to her, not wanting to draw the bridge\u2019s attention to it, \u201care you all right?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWhat do you mean?\u201d replied Scorpainia in the same whisper.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cYour claw\u2019s shaking,\u201d I answered. Scorpainia\u2019s right claw was shaking a bit. She looked at the claw and saw it shake. She then opened and shut it a few times, making it stop twitching.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cMust be getting old,\u201d she chuckled. I could see it in her eyes, something\u2019s terrified her. We were on a time crunch, though, so I put it to the back of my mind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cCourse laid in,\u201d reported Tanisha.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cEngage!\u201d I ordered in my best Picard impression. The engines hummed, the lights brightened&#8230;and the ship lurched, nearly throwing me out of my seat. Scorpainia yelped as the same happened to her while everyone else held onto their consoles as they fell.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI\u2019ll just correct the orbit, shall I?\u201d gulped Majel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cVorton\u2019s hailing us,\u201d reported Mikhail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cPut them through,\u201d I directed. \u201cThey probably want to know what\u2019s going on.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIs everything all right up there?\u201d asked Richard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cJust learned that the controls ARE similar to the space battles of the 2005\u00a0<em>Star Wars: Battlefront<\/em> <em>II<\/em>,\u201d replied Tanisha, \u201cbut with inverted controls.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI think we need to learn how to fly this thing,\u201d muttered Scorpainia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cMajel, why don\u2019t you pull up some tutorials?\u201d I suggested.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cTutorial system: engaged,\u201d replied Majel. \u201cWe\u2019ll start with step 1: Crash Avoidance.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWhen that\u2019s done,\u201d called Liam, \u201cque up&nbsp;<em>Snakes on a Plane<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cDude! Do it!\u201d agreed R9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201c&#8230;All right,\u201d mumbled Majel. \u201cQueuing up&nbsp;<em>Snakes on a Plane<\/em>, directed by David R. Ellis and starring Samuel L. Jackson and&#8230;\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cMajel, cancel that order,\u201d I interrupted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAW!\u201d protested Liam and R9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cYou guys go on without us,\u201d called Emily to my group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cOkay, if you say so, Sis,\u201d I muttered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe should probably get going,\u201d mumbled Famine as she finished her chicken wings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAll right, then,\u201d I declared. \u201cATTACK!\u201d We charged into the portal and fell through the rift.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cMoon-kyung,\u201d called Joshua, \u201cwish to do the honors?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cMe?\u201d I gulped.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWhy not? Let a new girl try her hand in a command position,\u201d replied Lacey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201c&#8230;Well, I DID want to join the army when I was a girl,\u201d I conceded. \u201cTime to get some practice in. Gaja!\u201d (Let\u2019s go!) We charged into the portal and headed to our destination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThere IS one thing I never liked about manning the Gateway,\u201d muttered Elphaba as Ms. Moon-kyung and her group departed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWhat\u2019s that?\u201d I asked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe waiting,\u201d explained Elphaba.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cNo one really likes waiting,\u201d I replied.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI\u2019m actually fine with it,\u201d signed Chell. Thank goodness Tanisha taught Rusty, Elphaba, and I how to understand American Sign Language.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWhy?\u201d asked Elphaba.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cBack home,\u201d continued Chell, \u201cI was constantly put into dangerous situations by GLaDOS, never getting a moment\u2019s rest. I\u2019m fine with just waiting.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWell, maybe it\u2019s the old bad guy in me,\u201d sighed Elphaba, \u201cbut I would stave off the ennui by conquest.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cYou\u2019ve REALLY got a bad case of jitters if conquest staves it off,\u201d remarked Rusty. I snorted holding back a laugh.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI don\u2019t know if you noticed,\u201d I remarked, \u201cbut your old associates in the Dalek Empire are the twitchiest bunch in our universe.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAnd knowing that there\u2019s a hostile multiverse out there,\u201d interjected Elphaba, \u201cwe need to be ready for attack. THAT\u2019S what\u2019s making me twitchy.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIn MY day,\u201d I replied, \u201cwe took on Daleks, Cybermen, Autons, Zygons, and all manner of space thuggery, and it doesn\u2019t get more hostile than THAT!\u201d Just then, the Gateway\u2019s control console beeped. Elphaba took it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThis is Vorton,\u201d she introduced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt\u2019s Emily,\u201d called Young Miss Saunders. \u201cWe finally got the ship controls hammered out. We\u2019ll see you later.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cGood luck,\u201d bid Elphaba. As soon as communications ended, the&nbsp;<em>Virginia<\/em>&nbsp;left orbit, opened a rift, and vanished into it. Rusty and I saluted, you\u2019re familiar with the salute of the United Kingdom, as it left.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAll right,\u201d declared Elphaba as she took charge, \u201cwe\u2019re all going into one hour shifts monitoring various aspects. Rusty, you\u2019re monitoring the power systems. Brigadier, you\u2019re monitoring weapons. Chell, medical monitoring for you. I\u2019ll monitor the Gateway for any rift activity. We switch at the end of our shifts, Gateway to medical to weapons to power to Gateway. Understood?\u201d We all confirmed our duties. \u201cPerfect, let\u2019s&#8230;\u201d the Gateway beeped again, interrupting her. Since she volunteered for Gateway duty, she checked the console. \u201cSomeone\u2019s coming through!\u201d she yelped.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cShocker Rift?\u201d asked Rusty as she readied her gunstick.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201c&#8230;No,\u201d reported Elphaba. \u201cA blonde woman in rags.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWhat was she doing in the rift?\u201d I asked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cDoes it matter?!\u201d signed Chell. \u201cBring her in! She\u2019s unprotected!\u201d Elphaba opened a portal and brought the woman to the platform. Rusty\u2019s eyes went wide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI know that face!\u201d she breathed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cPardon?\u201d I asked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cFrom the Pathweb, the shared intelligence of the Daleks!\u201d explained Rusty. \u201cFrom the Doctor\u2019s memories as well!
