It was a nice, calm morning for once in New York City. Inside a famous tower, a man with a goatee and a glowing light in his chest was looking over the numbers of his tech empire. Unlike most tech bros, this guy actually DID invent a lot of the technologies in his empire and gave credit to inventors that weren\u2019t him when other technologies he didn\u2019t think of cropped up. Another man then came in, this one with the most perfect athletic physique and dressing like it was the 1940\u2019s. \u201cStill crunching numbers, Stark?\u201d asked the new man.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cJust looking over the construction of the Rogers Homeless Shelter,\u201d replied the goatee-wearing man, the famous Tony Stark. \u201cHow about you? Still running drills, Sarge?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cVery funny,\u201d replied the new man, Steve Rogers. \u201cBy the way, Romanoff wants a word with you about the security system.\u201d Tony looked around, even up to the ceiling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWhere is she?\u201d he asked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWhere do you think?\u201d asked a woman with a Russian accent. The two men jumped as Tony whirled around to see the red-headed Natasha Romanoff, still in her outfit as the Black Widow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cCould you NOT do that once in a while?!\u201d panted Tony.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cHave to keep up security,\u201d replied the Black Widow. \u201cBy the way, I don\u2019t like the password you installed on the door to my quarters.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOh, so it\u2019s not just me?\u201d asked Steve.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cNyet, it\u2019s all the Avengers.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cTony!\u201d protested Steve.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cCome on! It\u2019s just a little harmless fun!\u201d protested Tony.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWhat\u2019s Hulk gonna say when he figures it out?!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOh, come on, he and Banner worked it out. I\u2019m not gonna be flattened.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cYou sure about that?\u201d growled a voice. Steve and Tony yelped as Natasha drew in a breath while her eyes widened. The source of the voice was a big, green, muscular man wearing glasses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201c\u2026B\u2026Banner?\u201d asked Tony.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI don\u2019t know, I think I\u2019ll indulge the\u2026Purple Spandex Guy, I think you made my new password?!\u201d growled Dr. Bruce Banner, the Hulk, as he took off his glasses and shirt!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cHold on! It was funny! You gotta admit it was funny!\u201d pleaded Tony. That was when a wind picked up inside the room and a strange noise filled the air.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201c\u2026Vworp?\u201d asked the Black Widow, trying to sound out the noise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cLook!\u201d called Steve as he pointed to something fading into existence. It was a blue box with a light on top that flashed on each Vworp. The noise ended with a thud as more details appeared on the box. It said \u201cPolice Public Call Box\u201d on each side of the roof. It had a pair of windows on all sides with a light coming from inside the box. A sign on the left-hand door said \u201cPolice Telephone. Free for use of public. Advice and assistance obtainable immediately. Officers and cars respond to urgent calls. Pull to open.\u201d The right-hand sign said \u201cSt. John Ambulance\u201d. \u201cI\u2019ve seen one of those things before,\u201d said Steve.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIn Harlem?\u201d asked Tony.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cNo, early models of them in London when I was deployed,\u201d explained Steve. \u201cThey were meant for the British public to report crimes and for the police to detain a suspect while they called for backup.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cSo how did one end up in this time?\u201d asked Hulk. The door then swung inside the box.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOkay, if the sign says \u2018Pull to open\u2019,\u201d remarked Tony, \u201cshouldn\u2019t the door swing towards us?\u201d Smoke then billowed out of the box and a person fell out. \u201cOh my god! Get William!\u201d called Tony as he tried to help the person.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The mystery person was in the medical ward of Avengers\u2019 Tower. The visiting doctor, William Davies, was running all sorts of medical tests and the results were\u2026baffling to say the least. The person was a small, brunette woman, but her internal biology made no sense. \u201c\u2026She\u2019s not even matching up with Thor,\u201d remarked William.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWhat do you mean?\u201d asked Tony.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWell, Thor\u2019s biology is similar to ours,\u201d replied William, \u201cbut this lady has two hearts, for one thing.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cHer blood pressure medication must be through the roof,\u201d remarked Tony.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cShe also has what I can only describe as pulmonary tubes running parallel to the lymphatic system instead of lungs,\u201d continued William. \u201cAnd her cells seem to be vibrating with some strange energy.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThor and Hulk are trying to figure out the box,\u201d explained a voice over comms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThanks, Vision,\u201d replied Tony.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt\u2019s definitely made of wood,\u201d said Dr. Banner. \u201cMaybe it\u2019s wood from Yggdrasil?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cCan\u2019t be,\u201d replied a man with long, blonde hair and a beard wearing a red cape and holding a hammer. \u201cWe\u2019d all know if a piece of Yggdrasil was taken. We\u2019d see rifts in the sky to all nine realms, for one thing.\u201d The man, Thor, placed a hand on the box. \u201c\u2026But there IS a sort of\u2026power, for lack of a better term.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis is extraordinary!\u201d breathed William. \u201cLook at this!\u201d A hologram of a DNA strand appeared. Tony arched an eyebrow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThat\u2019s\u2026a triple helix,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201c69 chromosomes arranged in triads!\u201d said William excitedly. \u201cI know you guys have met aliens before, but this\u2026! To actually study one!\u201d The woman then groaned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cMaybe we can ask her where she\u2019s from,\u201d suggested Tony. The woman opened her eyes groggily and started crawling out of the bed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cHey! Hang on!\u201d protested William. \u201cYou\u2019re not fit yet, Miss Alien!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cShoes\u2026\u201d mumbled the woman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cNo, no! Not yet!\u201d insisted Tony.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cNeed my shoes!\u201d protested the woman. William balked, then went to the storage locker and got the shoes she was wearing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cYou\u2019re not putting them on, are you?\u201d he asked. The woman grabbed the shoes and held them close to her like a child that was told to surrender its teddy bear. \u201c\u2026Well, I can\u2019t claim to know the oddities of my own people, much less an alien.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Thor couldn\u2019t place why the box felt so\u2026familiar, like he heard stories from his father, Odin. \u201c\u2026What manner of box are you?\u201d he asked. The door then opened.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWhoa!\u201d yelped Bruce. He then leaned closer to the box. \u201c\u2026You\u2019re smaller than me,\u201d he said to Thor. \u201cYou go in.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201c\u2026Suit yourself,\u201d replied Thor. He entered the box, gasped, then stepped out again and circled it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWhat is it?!\u201d asked Bruce.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201c\u2026It\u2019s\u2026It\u2019s\u2026bigger on the inside!\u201d breathed Thor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWhat?!\u201d asked Bruce. He poked his head in and gasped. Inside was a huge room! It had circles all over the walls and a hexagonal console with a cylinder in the middle! \u201c\u2026That\u2019s impossible!\u201d whispered Bruce.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI\u2019ve heard about such machines!\u201d said Thor. \u201cThey were used to carry their occupants through time and space! \u2026I thought they all died during the Last Great Time War! \u2026I must speak with the woman!\u201d Thor charged off to the medical ward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI tell you,\u201d said William, \u201cI\u2019ve never seen such-!\u201d He heard footsteps enter the ward. \u201cOh no!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThor, not now!\u201d complained Tony. Thor entered the room.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWhere\u2019s the Time Lord?!\u201d he asked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe what?!\u201d asked Tony.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe Time Lord! The owner of the box!\u201d insisted Thor. Bruce then stepped in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cTony, that police box breaks all the laws of geometry!\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s bigger on the inside!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cHe speaks the truth! We both saw it!\u201d said Thor excitedly. \u201cThat proves she\u2019s a Time Lord from the planet of Gallifrey! We used to be friends with the Gallifreyans!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWho\u2019s shouting?\u201d asked the woman. Thor approached her bed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cFriend Time Lord, I am Thor Odinson of Asgard!\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201c\u2026Asgard?\u201d asked the woman. \u201c\u2026You\u2019re\u2026a proper Asgardian? Not one of the Mire?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cNo, I\u2019m not one of those false warriors!\u201d shuddered Thor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201c\u2026Pleasure to meet you, Thor,\u201d said the woman as she sat up. \u201cI\u2019m the Doctor.\u201d Thor\u2019s eyes widened.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cTHE Doctor?! The Scourge of Skaro?! The Hero of Time?! The Vanquisher of the Cybermen?!\u201d he asked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWhoa! Whoa! Whoa!\u201d called Tony. \u201cI think our doctor here needs some rest! You can geek out with her later!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cVery well, Friend Stark,\u201d said Thor. \u201cBut know this, Friend Doctor, when you recover, we shall sing songs of your triumphs worthy of Valhalla!\u201d He then left the ward, singing an Asgardian victory song.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201c\u2026So, your people know each other,\u201d said Tony.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cHis people KNEW mine,\u201d replied the Doctor. \u201cLet\u2019s just say\u2026we\u2019re a bit\u2026lost.\u201d Tony could see the pain in her eyes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201c\u2026I think I understand,\u201d he said. \u201cNow, you\u2019re Dr\u2026.?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOh, just the Doctor, Mr\u2026.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cStark.\u201d The Doctor\u2019s eyes widened.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cTony Stark? Iron Man?!\u201d she said. \u201cSo I\u2019m in Avengers\u2019 Tower?!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cYeah, your box popped up in our commons room,\u201d explained Bruce.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe Hulk!\u201d said the Doctor. \u201cOh, this is splendid!\u201d She was about to spring from her bed when the alarms sounded. Bruce checked the security feed and saw an armored man in a green cloak outside the tower.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt\u2019s Doctor Doom!\u201d he warned. Tony then pressed the call button.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAvengers, assemble!\u201d he called as gold-colored armor with candy-apple red accents flew in and surrounded Tony, linking with the Arc Reactor in his chest to form the Invincible Iron Man! He and the Hulk dashed out of the medical ward, leaving the Doctor with William.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
