It was a dark, gloomy night in the city. People were scurrying back to their homes, trying to get away from the criminals that infested the city. A woman was trying to get home and made the rookie error of going down an alley. Three muggers then jumped out of the shadows. \u201cEep!\u201d yelped the woman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAll right, lady!\u201d said the lead mugger. \u201cGive us your purse and no one gets hurt!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cYou COULD resist,\u201d chuckled a second lustfully.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cKeep your mind on business!\u201d snapped the lead mugger. \u201cWe\u2019ll play with her later!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cNo! Please! You can\u2019t!\u201d begged the woman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOh, can\u2019t we?\u201d chuckled the last mugger. He was about to say something when a strange noise filled the air. They looked around to see the TARDIS fade into view. \u201cWhat the?!\u201d asked the third mugger. William stepped out of the TARDIS followed by the Doctor. His face contorted into one of disgust.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cUgh! That\u2019s an alley smell!\u201d he gagged. \u201cI thought you said we were going to New New York!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWell, I guess I put in the wrong coordinates,\u201d muttered the Doctor. She then saw the muggers. \u201c\u2026I see we\u2019re still in 21st<\/sup> century America. Eastern Seaboard City?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cA whole selection!\u201d chuckled the second mugger. \u201cAlways wanted to play with a man as well!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cOh, yuck! My cousin and his husband would tear you apart for setting back their work like that!\u201d complained William.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cYeah, well, you won\u2019t be telling him anything!\u201d snapped the lead mugger. \u201cNot unless you hand over all your money!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cAnd if we don\u2019t, what will you do?\u201d asked the Doctor, pretty sure of the answer already.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThen we\u2019re gonna have to cut that pretty face of yours! And hers!\u201d The third mugger held his knife to the woman\u2019s throat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201c\u2026All right, come on, try and cut my face,\u201d challenged the Doctor. She wasn\u2019t gonna do that 60\u2019s sitcom woman routine, not after trying it in Latveria. The lead mugger and his lustful friend rushed at the Doctor and William while the third kept the poor woman as his hostage. The Doctor dodged the lead mugger\u2019s knife attacks, then jabbed her pointer and middle fingers into his shoulder. His knife arm then went limp as his hand involuntarily opened, releasing the knife.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cWhat the f-?!\u201d The Doctor then vaulted him over her head into the second mugger. The second mugger\u2019s lustful face fell as he grabbed a pipe. He swung and the Doctor moved behind him. The Doctor then chopped her hand into the back of his neck, knocking him out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cNOT ONE STEP!\u201d warned the last mugger as he pressed the blade of his knife closer to the lady\u2019s neck.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cNo! Please!\u201d begged the woman. That was when something fell from the rooftops and released smoke.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cWHAT THE F-?!\u201d yelped the mugger. Something wrapped around his arm and yanked him up the fire escape. He looked around.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cI thought you said mugging was for sissies,\u201d rasped a voice. The mugger peed his pants as he looked up to see a man looming over him. The man wore a black suit, a black cape, a cowl with pointy ears, and a bat symbol on his chest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cB-B-B-B\u2026BATMAN!\u201d he screamed. \u201cNO! PLEASE! I AIN\u2019T GOT A CHOICE! MY PARENTS-!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThe Wayne Foundation is taking care of their medical bills,\u201d rasped Batman. \u201cYou, on the other hand, need to check into the charities listed under the Wayne Foundation\u2026after you and your friends serve your time.\u201d He knocked out the mugger, then jumped into the alley, checking on the woman. William was tending to the muggers\u2019 injuries while they were unconscious.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cBatman,\u201d sighed the woman happily, \u201cI don\u2019t know where you came from, but I\u2019m really grateful!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cWhat were you doing in this alley in the first place?\u201d asked Batman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cI was trying to get home,\u201d explained the woman. \u201cI\u2019m from Metropolis and I thought the alleys would get me there faster.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cNot in Gotham. What\u2019s your address?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201c224 27th<\/sup> street, apartment 22.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cGood apartments under a good landlord,\u201d said Batman. \u201cThe quickest way to 27th<\/sup> street is to go down this street all the way to where it intersects with General Boulevard. After that, head three blocks down and turn right on 27th<\/sup> street.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThank you, Batman!\u201d said the woman as she dashed past the Doctor and William. \u201cAnd thanks, you two!\u201d she said once she turned down the street.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cBatman?\u201d asked William. \u201cSo we\u2019re in Gotham?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cLate 2020\u2019s, if I\u2019m smelling the air right,\u201d remarked the Doctor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cAre you time-travelers?\u201d asked Batman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201c\u2026Well, I am, but I don\u2019t know if I successfully took Dr. Davies here to a new time,\u201d replied the Doctor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cWell, this is 2027.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cAnd I came from 2025,\u201d remarked William. \u201cWell, you were right, Doctor. You CAN travel in time. \u2026I just expected flying cars.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cNot yet,\u201d said the Doctor. \u201cWell, Batman, I\u2019m the Doctor, and this is my friend, Dr. William Davies.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cAre you both medically trained?\u201d asked Batman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cI have a medical degree, yes,\u201d replied William.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cI have a few other degrees as well as a medical one,\u201d said the Doctor. \u201cThough not from this planet and time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cYou better come with me then,\u201d said Batman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201c\u2026You\u2019re very accepting of my claims,\u201d remarked the Doctor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cMy best friend is Superman. Perhaps you\u2019ve heard of his old world?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cKrypton? Yes, I have.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cI guess being friends with aliens DOES change a human\u2019s perspective, Doctor,\u201d said William.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cOh, being friends with humans changes the perspective of non-humans, I assure you,\u201d said the Doctor. \u201cBatman, is there a way you can have my box over there taken with you?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201c\u2026I\u2019ll have it dropped off in the Batcave,\u201d replied Batman. He made a few calls, then pressed buttons on his gauntlet. A black, bat-themed, tank-like car then arrived.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThe Batmobile!\u201d whispered William. Batman opened the Batmobile, letting the Doctor and William enter first before he took the wheel. The Batmobile then sped off.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Batmobile entered a cave inside a hill a stately manor sat on. \u201c\u2026That\u2019s Wayne Manor,\u201d remarked William. \u201c\u2026You\u2019re not-?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cBillionaire Bruce Wayne,\u201d replied Batman as he took off his cowl to reveal a man with neatly trimmed black hair.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201c\u2026So you beat up poor people-?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cI do not just beat up poor people,\u201d replied Bruce Wayne. \u201cI make sure they get the resources needed to escape their lives of desperation thanks to the charities under the Wayne Foundation umbrella.\u201d The Batmobile then stopped on a landing bay. A butler then arrived, looking panicked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cMaster Bruce, I-!\u201d The butler spotted the Doctor and William. \u201c\u2026I\u2026do apologize, I was unaware we were having guests.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThey say they\u2019re doctors, Alfred,\u201d replied Bruce. \u201cThey might help the poor man in the medical ward. What\u2019s wrong?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cIt\u2019s our patient! The infection is spreading!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cLet me see,\u201d directed the Doctor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThis way,\u201d said Alred as he led everyone to the medical ward. Inside was a capsule big enough for a human to rest in. The Doctor\u2019s eyes widened in horror as she saw the man\u2019s face! It looked like it was covered in foliage!<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cNo!\u201d she whispered. \u201c\u2026Bruce Wayne, where did you find the pod?!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cYou\u2019ve seen this before?\u201d asked Bruce.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cTwice. Both times caused catastrophic endings for the patient. Pod! NOW!\u201d Bruce wasted no time in showing the Doctor the opened remains of a large seed pod. There was a specific juncture where something snapped off. \u201c\u2026Where?\u201d asked the Doctor. \u201cWhere did it come from?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cFrom a caper with Poison Ivy,\u201d replied Bruce, \u201can eco-terrorist that\u2019s become plant-like and with control over plants.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cHow did she know about this?\u201d asked the Doctor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cWayne-tech\u2019s bio-science division found two of them a year ago. We\u2019ve kept them in the freezer and moved them to different sites. Poison Ivy intercepted one move and tried to steal the pod last night, but Robin and I secured it and took it here. Then a student of Robin\u2019s, Ezar, he infiltrated the Batcave and tried to kill Damian, destroying the freezer pod and giving the seed pod enough time to germinate and open. The shoot then grabbed Ezar\u2019s face and fused with him. Damian tried destroying the shoot, but it proved to be too strong for his sword. Now we\u2019ve been keeping Ezar here to try and cure him.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cI\u2019ll do what I can,\u201d said the Doctor, \u201cbut I can\u2019t say I like his chances now. Let\u2019s see how far along the infection is.\u201d Bruce activated lights for the pod and stepped back when he saw that the whole body was covered in foliage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cGood grief!\u201d breathed Alfred. \u201cIt wasn\u2019t like that this morning!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cOdd, that stage should have taken an hour,\u201d remarked the Doctor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThen the cooling function,\u201d said Batman, \u201cmust be doing something right.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cDoctor, is this all part of that particular plant\u2019s life cycle?\u201d asked William.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cRegrettably, yes,\u201d confirmed the Doctor. \u201cEzar here is turning into a Krynoid.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cAnd what will happen when Ezar reaches the adult Krynoid stage?\u201d William had a distinct feeling it would be nasty for everyone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cWell, on most planets, animals eat vegetation, yes?\u201d asked the Doctor. \u201cThe tables are turned on planets where the Krynoid is established.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201c\u2026You mean a rose garden-?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cWould spill your blood in an instant.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" It was a dark, gloomy night in the city.
