\u201c\u2026Doing what to the doors?\u201d asked William.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe sonic screwdriver,\u201d explained Martha. \u201cIt\u2019s pretty much the Doctor\u2019s Swiss army knife, just without a knife.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cNot this time, Martha,\u201d remarked the Doctor. \u201cIt\u2019s become too much of a crutch, post Time War.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThere\u2019s machinery in the walls,\u201d said Yoshimura. \u201cPerhaps we can destroy it to break the locks?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThey\u2019re not connected to the doors,\u201d replied the Doctor. \u201c\u2026Now, if I had a torch\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cA torch?\u201d asked William. \u201cWhy something so primitive?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201c\u2026Flashlight, I think you Americans call it,\u201d explained the Doctor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI\u2019ve got one,\u201d replied Mickey. The Doctor looked to see Mickey pulling out a flashlight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOh, brilliant!\u201d she said. \u201cWilliam, Martha, help me get that particular wall open!\u201d She, Martha, and William pulled the wall paneling off and the Doctor started pulling components out. \u201cLet\u2019s see. \u2026Gonna need that. \u2026No, don\u2019t need THAT. \u2026Might need that. \u2026Ooh! That\u2019ll be a perfect booster! \u2026There we go! Just enough parts for a Fizgig!\u201d The Doctor got to work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201c\u2026What do you think our prisoners are up to?\u201d The Xilien Commander asked the Controller.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201c\u2026No idea, but there\u2019s nothing useful in that cell of theirs,\u201d replied the Controller.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWell, the Time Lord\u2019s building something,\u201d remarked the nearby Security Chief.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOh?\u201d asked the Controller as she looked on the monitor. The Doctor had just finished her device. If it was possible, the Xiliens would have blinked in confusion. \u201c\u2026Bring them here. I want to see what their amusing toy can do.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The cell\u2019s door opened as two guards entered. \u201cThe Controller wants to see your toy, Time Lord,\u201d said one. \u201cYou and your friends will follow us.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOh, of course!\u201d replied the Doctor. \u201cI think your Controller will be amused by my Fizgig.\u201d She got up and took the device. \u201cCome along!\u201d she said to her friends. Everyone left the cell.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They were brought to the main control room. The Xilien Controller was sitting in her command chair. \u201cMaking toys before your demise, Time Lord?\u201d she asked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWell, I have nothing better to do,\u201d replied the Doctor. She presented the device. \u201cI call it a Fizgig!\u201d The Xilien Controller then took it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWhat does it do?\u201d she asked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cYou\u2019ll see,\u201d replied the Doctor. \u201cJust press the button on the side.\u201d As she said that, the Doctor covered her eyes. Her companions did the same. The Xilien Controller then flicked the Fizgig on\u2026and blinding-white light filled the room!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cMY EYES!\u201d screamed the Controller.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cTHIS WAY!\u201d called the Doctor as she led her companions to the elevator.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cStop them! STOP THEM!\u201d shouted the Controller. The Xiliens fired their weapons but couldn\u2019t see well enough to know who they were firing at. \u201cNOT ME, YOU FOOLS!\u201d berated the Controller.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cA flash-bang!\u201d said William. \u201cYou turned the flashlight into a flash-bang!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWell, more sort of amplified the flash to be able to project ultra-white light, but that\u2019s essentially it,\u201d said the Doctor. \u201cHere we are! The elevator!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cSTAY WHERE YOU ARE!\u201d called a Xilien guard as he raised his weapon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cCome on!\u201d groaned William as he pressed the button. \u201cWhat\u2019s wrong with this ele-!\u201d A scream interrupted him. Everyone turned to see Yoshimura fall to the ground, a singe mark where his heart was located. Medical instincts kicked in for Martha and William as they checked the poor man over. \u2026But it was too late. Yoshimura was dead. William barely heard the elevator arrive. \u201c\u2026You cold-blooded-!\u201d snarled William.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWILLIAM! COME ON!\u201d called the Doctor. William and Martha then looked to the elevator, then to the approaching Xiliens, then to Yoshimura\u2019s body.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201c\u2026You\u2019ll be avenged,\u201d William promised, just in case Yoshimura\u2019s ghost was listening. He and Martha then entered the elevator. The doors shut and the elevator went up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The doors at the top floor leading into Godzilla\u2019s cave opened and the Doctor led everyone to the jeep. She started the vehicle as everyone piled in, then they sped off. \u201cDoctor,\u201d called Mickey, \u201chave you noticed that the cave didn\u2019t have the big fire-breathing lizard?!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI was wondering the same thing, Mickey,\u201d replied the Doctor. \u201cMy best guess; something\u2019s attracted his Monstrous Majesty.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cA Xilien weapon?\u201d guessed William. \u201cWhat if he was more aware of Xilien squatters in his cave than we realized?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cGodzilla HAS been known to have some form of ESP, so there\u2019s that theory,\u201d replied the Doctor. A monstrous cry then sounded from the heavens. Everyone looked up to see a new Kaiju flying down to Monster Island. It landed feet first and William could only describe it as an armored chicken with three membrane style fins, a red visor over its eyes, a buzzsaw in the chest, and scythes replacing the forearms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201c\u2026D\u2026Did the Xiliens-?!\u201d he finally asked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThat\u2019s their cyborg,\u201d replied the Doctor. \u201cDesignated Hunter Zero these days. \u2026You humans call it Gigan.\u201d Gigan set his sights on the jeep. He shrieked his usual battle cry and stomped towards them!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cUh oh!\u201d gulped William.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cDoctor, STEP ON IT!\u201d urged Mickey. The Doctor hit the gas and the jeep sped off with Gigan in pursuit. As he pursued, however, missiles from the EDF base hit him. They didn\u2019t stop him, but they DID slow him down just a tad. The jeep was quickly waved through. The Doctor and her friends then jumped out and met with Takahashi and Sato.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cYou lot seemed prepared,\u201d said the Doctor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cLet\u2019s just say we had a heads-up from the Shobijin,\u201d replied Sato.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cShobijin?\u201d asked William.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cTwo tiny island priestesses,\u201d explained Takahashi, \u201cservants of Mothra. They came to us to warn of Gigan\u2019s arrival. Our firepower can\u2019t stop him, but we can at least hold out until Gojira comes with allies.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI presume one of those allies is Mothra?\u201d guessed the Doctor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThat\u2019s right,\u201d replied Takahashi. \u201cAnd the other is Biollante. Her head\u2019s now in a much better place, apparently.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI certainly hope so,\u201d remarked the Doctor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cJust one question,\u201d said William, \u201cCommander Takahashi, how does the EDF know about the Xiliens?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWell, Japan was invaded by them twice before,\u201d said Takahashi. \u201cHell, they unleashed a horde of monsters that Gojira and his allies had to fight.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cA horde? When?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201c2017.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201c\u2026I was in the middle of my residency at the time,\u201d remarked William. \u201cI don\u2019t remember seeing any giant monsters then. I\u2019m sure I\u2019d have heard about it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cDo you remember your history classes talking about the Nestene Invasion?\u201d asked the Doctor. \u201cOr the Zygon gambit with the Loch Ness Monster? Or the Yetis in the London Underground?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cHow about the Sontaran Atmos incident?\u201d quizzed Martha.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOr the Daleks\u2019 theft of Earth?\u201d supplied Mickey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOr where a mutant iguana was mistaken for being Gojira as it rampaged through New York?\u201d asked Dr. Sato.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOr where Gojira battle the MUTOs?\u201d quizzed Takahashi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cHow about the Chitauri Battle of New York?\u201d continued the Doctor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThat last one I know,\u201d said William, \u201cbut the others?\u201d The Doctor rolled her eyes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cLike I said to Ace in Coal Hill School, 1963,\u201d she muttered. \u201cYou humans have an amazing capacity for self-deception matched only by your ingenuity when trying to destroy yourselves.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cGuys, table that for later!\u201d called a soldier as he pointed out how close Gigan was now!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOh dear,\u201d muttered the Doctor. \u201cDo we have an ETA on Mothra\u2019s arrival?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cNo,\u201d replied Takahashi. \u201cAnd we seem to have lost Gojira.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cHow do you lose an atomic fire-breathing lizard taller than most buildings?!\u201d protested William.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the Xilien base, the Controller made her way to the command center. \u201cReport,\u201d she ordered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cHunter Zero is en route to the EDF base,\u201d replied the Commander. \u201cHowever, I have allocated supplementary orders in light of Monster Zero One\u2019s absence from the cave.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cSo you HAVE noticed, good. Those supplementary orders are\u2026?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cTo destroy Godzilla at once. Don\u2019t waste time with indulging sadism.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cExcellent,\u201d agreed the Controller. \u201cThe Time Lord can\u2019t save these apes now! We will take their water, harvest their mitochondria, and make this planet into an outpost of the Xilien Empire!\u201d At that moment, the radar pinged. The Xilien running radar checked his instruments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cController,\u201d he reported, \u201cwe have an enemy contact flying towards the island, bearing 4-7-4 Mark 3-1-9.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIdentify its origin,\u201d ordered the Controller. The radar operator coordinated with the navigator. Both Xiliens gasped.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cFrom a landmass the humans identified as Infant Island! Mothra\u2019s been deployed!\u201d said the radar operator.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWHAT?!\u201d shouted the Controller. She pulled up a visual and, as her subordinates reported, the giant moth goddess was speeding towards Monster Island! There was a glow behind her, but the moth looked unconcerned with the glow. \u201cWe have to destroy that thing now! Battle stations! Raise the ship!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cRaise the ship?!\u201d yelped the Commander. \u201cOur invasion-!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOur timetable has to be accelerated! We MUST destroy Mothra! Raise the ship NOW!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
