The TARDIS spun through the Time Vortex as usual. Inside, the Doctor checked the console, pondering what she found. \u201cAmy swore up and down she was transported to another universe,\u201d she muttered. \u201cSo why\u2026?\u201d The Doctor scratched her head. \u201cMaybe she was mistaken?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWho was mistaken?\u201d asked Amy as she and Lurra Rus entered the console room.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201c\u2026Amy, are you sure you said you were taken to another universe?\u201d asked the Doctor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cYeah, why?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cBecause I\u2019m not seeing any disappearances in history concerning you, just mere transports through time.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAre you sure, Doctor? Because I can remember one adventure where I had to fill in for someone in the fight against a really nasty guy after the Chaos Emeralds.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cDo you remember the nasty guy\u2019s name?\u201d asked the Doctor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cYeah. His name was Darkseid.\u201d The Doctor goggled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cDarkseid?! Ruler of Apokolips?!\u201d she asked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cYeah. You know him?\u201d quizzed Amy. The Doctor keyed in several search words for the TARDIS computers, then got the results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201c\u2026Amy, you and your friends weren\u2019t transported to another universe during that incident,\u201d she finally said. \u201cMerely to the past.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWhat?! Seriously?!\u201d asked Amy. \u201cYou mean I could chat with Wonder Woman again?!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cYes, you could. \u2026Want to?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cYeah!\u201d Amy turned to Lurra Rus. \u201cLurra, you\u2019re gonna love the Justice League!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI would like to see more friends of yours, Amy,\u201d replied Lurra Rus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThat settles it, then!\u201d declared the Doctor. \u201cLet me just set the coordinates to the Watchtower and\u2026\u201d The TARDIS was then set on course!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Watchtower, the base of operations for the Justice League, a group of superheroes that watched over all of Earth. In front of a big bank of monitor screens, a man in a red and blue suit with a diamond pattern on his chest that evoked a red S over a yellow background and a red cape was watching intently. In his usual civilian disguise, he was Clark Kent, mild-mannered reporter for a newspaper known as the Daily Planet. Right now, in his current costume, he was the Kryptonian survivor known as Superman. \u201cYou know, it\u2019s that kind of brooding that spreads the rumor that you have a crush on Batman,\u201d said a woman\u2019s voice. Superman heard someone walk into the monitor room. He knew it was a woman in a red and gold outfit with a starred tiara and silver bracelets and armed with a gold lasso.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cVery funny, Diana,\u201d he retorted, using the woman\u2019s civilian name. He turned to see that the woman\u2019s raven hair was wavy instead of straight and she wore a blue skirt with white stars on it. \u201c\u2026Nostalgia?\u201d he asked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cJust wanted to wear the skirt again,\u201d replied the woman, Wonder Woman. \u201cSo, any threats you could find, Batman Junior?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cCut that out!\u201d he said. \u201cAnd to answer your question, it\u2019s the sudden lack of intelligence on six specific threats.\u201d He pulled up dossiers of six threats the Justice League faced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cLack of intelligence? They can\u2019t just vanish like that!\u201d argued Wonder Woman. \u201cDoes Bruce know?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe both spotted this at the same time,\u201d replied Superman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAnd that\u2019s a cause for concern, Diana,\u201d came a third, raspy voice. Superman and Wonder Woman were startled, then Wonder Woman turned on the speaker, a man dressed in black with a bat motif to his cape and cowl.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOkay, my creeping up on Clark was an accident!\u201d she hissed at the new man, Batman. \u201cYOU did that on purpose, Bruce!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cYou two were late for the meeting,\u201d replied Batman. Superman face-palmed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cCrap, I forgot it was today!\u201d he groaned. \u201cCome on, you two.\u201d As they headed off, a strange noise filled their ears.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201c\u2026Boys,\u201d said Wonder Woman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt can\u2019t be!\u201d breathed Superman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThere\u2019s only one machine I know that makes that sound,\u201d remarked Batman. The noise ended in a thud and alarms blared.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIntruder Alert!\u201d warned the computer. \u201cBlue box in hangar bay 2!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cCome on!\u201d called Superman. He leapt out of his seat and flew down the hall with Wonder Woman flying after him and carrying Batman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cDiana!\u201d protested Batman. The three then made their way to the hangar and found a familiar blue box.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cGreat Rao!\u201d swore Superman. \u201cIt\u2019s a\u2026it\u2019s a TARDIS! It\u2019s\u2026THE TARDIS!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cDoes that\u2026mean anything?\u201d asked Wonder Woman as she set Batman down.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe Doctor is here for some reason,\u201d replied Batman. \u201cComputer, cancel intruder alert. The box belongs to a friend.\u201d Superman flew towards the TARDIS and accidentally tackled the two people coming out. He goggled as he recognized one of them!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAMY ROSE?!\u201d he yelped.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cSuperman!\u201d replied Amy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAmy?!\u201d asked Wonder Woman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cDIANA!\u201d called Amy. The two hugged each other.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt\u2019s great to see you!\u201d cheered Wonder Woman. \u201cTrying out the goth thing like Batman and Shadow?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI\u2019M NOT GOTH!\u201d protested Batman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOf course you aren\u2019t,\u201d replied Amy. \u201cOh, this is my friend, Lurra Rus!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cH-Hello!\u201d gulped Lurra Rus. Superman ran his eyes up and down Lurra Rus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201c\u2026You\u2019re an actual Twi\u2019lek,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cY-Yes,\u201d replied Lurra. \u201cEarthers have heard of us?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe thought we created your people for the Star Wars<\/em> franchise,\u201d explained Batman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cI can assure you, we\u2019re real, Mister\u2026\u201d answered Lurra Rus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThat\u2019s Batman,\u201d replied Amy. \u201cAKA, Billionaire Playboy Bruce Wayne. The lady is Wonder Woman, AKA, Diana, Princess of the Amazons of Themyscira, and the big blue boy scout that tackled us is Superman, AKA, Mild-mannered reporter, Clark Kent.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cCharmed,\u201d said Lurra Rus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cAmy, can you clear something up?\u201d asked Superman. \u201cI could have sworn this was a TARDIS. THE TARDIS. The only TARDIS the Kryptonian Archives ever talked about.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cIs there someone called the Doctor in there?\u201d asked Batman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cYeah! She\u2019s just inside!\u201d replied Amy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cNo, she\u2019s not,\u201d corrected the Doctor. \u201cShe\u2019s coming out.\u201d She saw the three superheroes. \u201cSuperman, Batman, and Wonder Woman! What an honor!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201c\u2026You\u2019re wearing your old face, Doctor,\u201d remarked Batman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201c\u2026N-No I\u2019m not,\u201d replied the Doctor. \u201cYou mean this isn\u2019t our second meeting and I changed my face?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201c\u2026My second meeting with you must have been with your future,\u201d guessed Batman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cWell, that\u2019s time travel for you,\u201d sighed the Doctor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cDoctor, you and your friends might be able to help us,\u201d said Superman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cOh?\u201d asked the Doctor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cWe\u2019ll explain more at the meeting,\u201d said Wonder Woman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Doctor and her friends were led to a conference room. Already there were the remaining founders of the Justice League; Green Lantern, AKA Hal Jordan, the Flash, AKA Barry Allen, and Martian Manhunter, AKA J\u2019onn J\u2019onzz. The Doctor was naturally surprised to see Martian Manhunter. \u201cForgive me for pointing this out, but I thought-.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cI\u2019m the last of those Martians,\u201d replied Martian Manhunter. \u201cI believe you understand, Last of the Time Lords.\u201d The Doctor said nothing. Lurra Rus arched an eyebrow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cI thought she wasn\u2019t-,\u201d she whispered to Amy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cI doubt that feeling goes away,\u201d replied Amy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cHere\u2019s what we\u2019ve got so far,\u201d said Green Lantern as he used his ring to project holograms of news articles. \u201cSix of our greatest enemies had suddenly vanished. Amy would know a few of them.\u201d The holograms then changed into a bald man in a suit. \u201cLex Luthor, owner of LexCorp, vanished ten days ago.\u201d Amy flinched when the hologram changed into a man in a cheap suit and with clown makeup. \u201cThe Joker, anarchist, disappeared a day after Lex.\u201d The hologram changed to a woman with cheetah features, \u201cCheetah, On\/Off ally, vanished two days after the Joker.\u201d The hologram changed again, this time into a gorilla wearing armor. \u201cGorilla Grodd, tyrant of Gorilla City, vanished a day after Cheetah.\u201d The hologram then became a man wearing a suit similar to Green Lantern\u2019s but the symbol was different. \u201cSinestro, leader of the Sinestro Corps, also known as the Yellow Lanterns, vanished right in front of my eyes during a fight with him a day after Gorilla Grodd.\u201d The hologram changed for the last time, this time into another Martian of Martian Manhunter\u2019s type. \u201cAnd D’kay D’Razz, the last female Martian, unethical scientist, vanished two days after Sinestro.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cSounds to me like someone is gathering them,\u201d mused the Doctor. \u201cBut who?\u201d At that moment, an alert came through. Batman checked it out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cIt\u2019s the UN!\u201d he said. He pulled up the video where Lois Lane, Superman\u2019s girlfriend, was reporting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThis is Lois Lane, reporting live from the UN!\u201d she said. \u201cSix of our planet\u2019s most heinous villains have kidnapped the delegates of the UN and are holding them ransom! I just received word that there\u2019s footage of Lex Luthor outlining the terms of their return!\u201d By then, Lex Luthor appeared on screen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cGreetings, my friends,\u201d he said. \u201cRest assured, all the delegates will be returned, but there IS a bit of quid pro quo involved. I would advise all nations to disband the Justice League as their presence is a threat to proper security. I didn\u2019t wish to go this far, but the laissez-faire approach that Earth as a whole has become too prevalent.
