The ground near him shifted as if someone was digging a hole from below! The digger then poked his head out and looked around. \u201cBUGS?!\u201d yelped Mickey. The digger, the equally famous Bugs Bunny, looked up in surprise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cMICKEY?!\u201d he yelped. He then pulled out a map and looked at it. \u201c\u2026Knew I should have gone north at Albuquerque.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cYou get lost there too many times, Bugs,\u201d remarked Mickey. \u201cWhy not just avoid Albuquerque altogether?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDoctor, are you sure coming here early was a good idea?\u201d asked Amy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cPositive,\u201d replied the Doctor. \u201cIt\u2019s best to get ahead of a chronal surge when you can. That\u2019s why we\u2019re here and now.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cSo where and when IS here and now, exactly?\u201d asked Lurra Rus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cMickey, is that a-?!\u201d asked Bugs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWell, she\u2019s no cast member here!\u201d replied Mickey. The Doctor looked up and grinned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cYes, it\u2019s me,\u201d replied the Doctor. \u201cHow far away from our Mars trip are we? Temporally speaking, of course.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThat was a few months ago, Doc,\u201d answered Bugs. \u201cBut what are you doing here in the first place?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cTracking an event called the Grouping,\u201d explained the Doctor. \u201cA series of chronal surges that tend to take someone out of their time and pop them in a different one altogether.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI\u2026see\u2026\u201d Bugs didn\u2019t REALLY see, but he wasn\u2019t sure he wanted the Doctor\u2019s attempt at dumbing the explanation down.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWell, I need to take a few scans and-.\u201d That was when a chronal surge washed over the group. The Doctor then clutched at her left-hand heart! She fell against the TARDIS to steady herself and catch her breath.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cDOCTOR!\u201d yelped Lurra Rus. The Doctor panted as she recovered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201c\u2026Me,\u201d she whispered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You\u2019ve heard that a man is the sum of his memories, yes? Well, a Time Lord even more so! Come on, let\u2019s go see where I ended up.\u201d The Doctor picked herself up and went to the side of the TARDIS\u2026to find a floppy hat!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201c\u2026Doc, didn\u2019t YOU used to wear that?\u201d asked Bugs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThat hat I wore when we first met,\u201d replied the Doctor, \u201cwasn\u2019t this hat at all.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cExcuse me,\u201d called a man\u2019s voice, \u201cthat would be mine.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOh, here you are!\u201d replied the Doctor as she handed the hat to the man. She then did a double take when she saw the man\u2019s features. He put the hat on his mop of curly brown hair, he had a wide smile, a brown coat, and a ridiculously long multi-colored scarf draped around his shoulders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cHow do you do?\u201d greeted the man as he pulled a bag out of his pocket. \u201cI\u2019m the Doctor. Care for a jelly baby?\u201d The Doctor blinked, then took a sweet from his bag. \u201cThat offer applies to everyone,\u201d said the man.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201c\u2026Doctor, that\u2019s not-?\u201d asked Amy as everyone got a jelly baby.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI\u2019m rather afraid so, Amy,\u201d replied the Doctor. \u201cThat\u2026is me. Was me. \u2026That\u2019s my fourth incarnation.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOh, so you\u2019re the Doctor as well?\u201d asked the Fourth Doctor. \u201cPerhaps you can account for my being here?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt was hardly my fault, you bohemian!\u201d argued the Doctor as she stomped forward. \u201cThere was a chronal surge and whoOOPS!\u201d Her foot landed on something tubular and she tripped, running into the Fourth Doctor. \u201cOkay, what was-?!\u201d The Doctor whirled around\u2026to see that she stepped on a recorder. \u201c\u2026Now that looks familiar,\u201d she muttered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cA flute of some kind?\u201d asked Amy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cProperly speaking, it\u2019s a recorder,\u201d corrected the Doctor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAnd oddly familiar,\u201d mused the Fourth Doctor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cMadame, do be careful where you step!\u201d admonished a new man\u2019s voice. The speaker then snatched the recorder from the Doctor\u2019s hand. The Doctor and the Fourth Doctor goggled in surprise as they saw that the man was a little fellow dressed like a tramp with black hair and a bow tie. The man pulled out a rag and cleaned off the recorder, then played on it a bit. \u201cAh, there we go!\u201d he said, pleased with the results. \u201cStill playable.\u201d He put the recorder in his coat pocket. \u201cNow then, perhaps introductions are in order, hm?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI don\u2019t think that\u2019s necessary, Doctor,\u201d replied the Doctor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWait a minute, you just called him\u2026oh no!\u201d groaned Lurra Rus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cYou know my name, Madame?\u201d asked the new man.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe both do, Doctor,\u201d replied the Fourth Doctor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201c\u2026Oh my word,\u201d realized the man. \u201cSo my future, eh? Twice over? Just as well I turned up.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cDoctor, if that\u2019s another incarnation, which one is he?\u201d Amy asked her Doctor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThat would be our second,\u201d answered the Doctor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI don\u2019t seem to recall meeting that man over there,\u201d remarked the Second Doctor as he pointed at the Fourth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cHe was trapped in a time eddy during our time in the Death Zone,\u201d explained the Doctor. \u201cHe\u2019s the one between Fancy Pants and the Cricket Player with the celery on his lapel.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOkay, so if this happened to you before twice over,\u201d said Lurra Rus, \u201chow do we solve this?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI don\u2019t remember,\u201d replied the Doctor. Her companions gave her a funny look. \u201cLook, it\u2019s something Rassilon put into our genetics.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAh, so they know about Rassilon, then?\u201d asked the Second Doctor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThey met him\u2026her,\u201d replied the Doctor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cMet her?\u201d asked the Fourth Doctor. \u201cShe\u2019s walking again?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWent mad, then traveled with me and went sane, hopefully,\u201d explained the Doctor. \u201cIn any event-.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cRassilon made it so-!\u201d By now, all the Doctors were talking. The three glared at each other. \u201c\u2026Go ahead. \u2026Rassilon made it-!\u201d Amy held up a hand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOne at a time,\u201d she said. She pointed at the Second Doctor. \u201cYou start us off, then Scarfy, then my Doctor can finish the explanation.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cYou see, Rassilon knew that, with our time travel capabilities,\u201d began the Second Doctor, \u201cwe\u2019d accidentally cross into our own time streams, despite all the precautions and laws set down.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cSo, while giving the Time Lords our ability to regenerate,\u201d continued the Fourth, \u201cRassilon implemented a fail-safe that only the eldest incarnation would remember recall meeting one\u2019s past.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cBut the past can\u2019t exactly remember the future,\u201d finished the present Doctor, \u201cbecause the past would need to play out so the future would happen. Understand?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
