\u201cNot robots, cyborgs,\u201d corrected the Doctor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWhat\u2019s that Hammer Bro doing?!\u201d yelped Amy. The Hammer Bro threw his hammer\u2026but it bounced off the Cyberman that was his target.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cEradicate them,\u201d ordered the Cyber Leader. The Cybermen pulled out their guns and fired! The Koopas and Kremlings took cover and fired back. The battle prevented the Doctor and her group from helping.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cDang it, that\u2019s too much!\u201d complained Donkey Kong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAt this rate, they might as well be using bows and arrows!\u201d muttered the Doctor. Then\u2026it happened. As a Cyberman advanced on them, a hammer struck it in the chest unit. The chest unit sparked and exploded, then the Cyberman screamed before collapsing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201c\u2026But\u2026but how?!\u201d yelped Amy, the first attempt from a Hammer Bro still fresh in her mind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cA Cyberman killed by a hammer?! That\u2019s absurd!\u201d remarked the Doctor. Her eyes then widened as she got an idea. \u201c\u2026Unless\u2026\u201d she turned the corpse over and pulled out the hammer. It was a golden one. A smile crossed the Doctor\u2019s face. \u201cOf course! These are later-model Cyber Neomorphs! Far more primitive than the ones we met in Earth\u2019s 30th century!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWhat\u2019s that mean?\u201d asked Amy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe line we met,\u201d explained the Doctor, \u201cwas the result of our universe\u2019s Cybermen and Cybermen from another universe coming together and upgrading one another to make more advanced models. These Cybermen are from before that time, so they haven\u2019t kept up to date on current models! The union of those two Cybermen lines removed a glaring weakness from the Cybermen of our universe, a weakness that these Cybermen still have!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWhat\u2019s that?\u201d asked Donkey Kong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cGold!\u201d replied the Doctor. \u201cBecause of how non-corrosive it is, if you introduce gold into the breathing apparatus on the chest units, the Cybermen suffocate and either just collapse or, with these models, the chest units explode to fatal effect.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Unbeknownst to the Doctor, a Kremling heard her explanation. \u201c\u2026Gold, huh?\u201d he muttered. He then pulled out a slingshot and a gold coin. A nearby Koopa saw that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis is no time for games!\u201d he protested. \u201cWe\u2019re wasting our 1-Ups!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cTrust me!\u201d replied the Kremling as he loaded his slingshot. He then pulled back, aimed at a Cyberman, then fired! The gold coin sailed through the air and hit the Cyberman in the chest unit! The chest unit sparked, then the Cyberman screamed and collapsed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWhat the-?!\u201d spluttered the Koopa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cGold\u2019s their weakness!\u201d called the Kremling. \u201cFire anything gold at their chests!\u201d The tide turned\u2026briefly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cLeader, the enemy is using gold projectiles,\u201d warned the Cyber Deputy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cEngage Serpent abilities,\u201d ordered the Cyber Leader. The Cyber Deputy transmitted the order to all Cyber forces, then the Cybermen took the combined Koopa\/Kremling army by surprise! Their legs turned into serpent tails and coiled like springs! They then jumped out of the way. The Cybermen\u2019s eyes then glowed and the Koopas and Kremlings slowed down!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cDK, did you-?!\u201d spluttered Pauline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThat\u2019s the Snake Bananza!\u201d replied Donkey Kong. \u201cThose guys learned the Snake Bananza!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cKnockoffs is what they are!\u201d hissed Pauline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cDarn right! Hop on!\u201d directed Donkey Kong. Pauline then got onto DK\u2019s back and held tight. Donkey Kong then charged into the fray!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cDONKEY KONG, GET BACK HERE!\u201d protested the Doctor. Donkey Kong then pounded his chest as if to set a beat!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cSNAAAAAAAKE!\u201d shouted Pauline. Donkey Kong hooted, then posed as Pauline sang. No one could recognize the language\u2026and everyone stared as Donkey Kong blinked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201c\u2026Erm, Kiddo,\u201d said Donkey Kong. Pauline\u2019s singing faltered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201c\u2026You should be scaly right now,\u201d remarked Pauline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThat is the gorilla that had mastered all five Bananzas, Leader,\u201d remarked a Cyberman as it turned its tail back into legs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cGiven that it is accompanied by a human female,\u201d replied the Cyber Leader, \u201clogic dictates that both are needed to learn the Kong Bananza. Take them. Engage Zebra abilities.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cUh oh!\u201d gulped Donkey Kong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cQUICK! IN THERE!\u201d called the Doctor as she waved to the TARDIS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe can\u2019t-!\u201d protested Donkey Kong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cDon\u2019t argue, DK!\u201d insisted Pauline. \u201cGet in there! Hurry!\u201d Donkey Kong then knuckled towards the TARDIS at top speed while the Cybermen were trying to intercept him. They had circled in front of him, but Donkey Kong knocked them aside and entered the TARDIS. The Doctor shut the doors behind him once everyone was inside. She then dashed towards the console and took off. Donkey Kong goggled in surprise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt\u2019s\u2026It\u2019s\u2026bigger on the inside!\u201d he gasped.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThat\u2019s right, you never went inside on Kong Island, did you?\u201d recalled the Doctor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cYou\u2019ve redecorated,\u201d said Mario. \u201c\u2026I like it!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWh-what is-?!\u201d spluttered Donkey Kong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt\u2019s the TARDIS,\u201d replied the Doctor. \u201cAnywhere\u2026and anywhen! \u2026But right now, we have bigger problems. Namely, how the Cybermen got those powers.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThey must have taken the Underground Elders somehow,\u201d said Pauline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cUnderground Elders?\u201d asked Amy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI can\u2019t say as I\u2019ve heard of them,\u201d remarked Mario.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThey\u2019re the leaders of five different underground animal tribes,\u201d explained Donkey Kong. \u201cThere\u2019s the Snakes, the Elephants, the Ostriches, the Zebras, and a whole tribe of Kongs. They live in different layers of the Underground World and can make their own sunlight.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWhen I was a little girl,\u201d continued Pauline, \u201cI was kidnapped by the president of the once biggest mining company, Void Co. His name was Void Kong and he was obsessed with finding something called the Great Banandium Root at the Planet Core to wish for infinite gold and he didn\u2019t care how many lives he ruined.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cKing K. Rool had tried a similar plan earlier and was trapped by the Banandium Root, but we accidentally released him and he hijacked Void Kong\u2019s plan,\u201d Donkey Kong went on. \u201cBut the whole journey resulted in Pauline returning here via the Banandium Root.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cSo the core of this planet isn\u2019t made of molten earth,\u201d remarked the Doctor. \u201cVery interesting. What IS it made of if people can survive in it? \u2026Discussion for another time. Right now, I need to know, what are these Bananzas the Cybermen mentioned?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cShort term transformations for DK that are usually activated by my singing,\u201d said Pauline. \u201c\u2026But something went wrong. I\u2019m pretty sure I sang the lyrics to the Snake Bananza song right.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cMaybe the Cybermen are blocking your access to them,\u201d remarked the Doctor. \u201cCounter-frequency, perhaps? Questions, questions.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cDoctor, maybe we should check on the Elders,\u201d suggested Donkey Kong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201c\u2026If the Cybermen captured them\u2026\u201d mused the Doctor as a look of worry crossed her face.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cDoctor, the Cybermen said they needed Donkey Kong and Pauline to learn the Kong Bananza,\u201d recalled Lurra Rus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThen maybe the Kong Elder can help us!\u201d said Pauline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWhere is the Kong Elder?\u201d asked the Doctor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIn the Lagoon Layer,\u201d replied Donkey Kong. \u201cSublayers\u2026100 to 102. He\u2019s specifically at Sublayer 101.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cRight,\u201d declared the Doctor. \u201cOff we go!\u201d She set the coordinates and the TARDIS took off.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Cybermen forced the Koopa\/Kremling army into a retreat as the TARDIS dematerialized. \u201cPrediction of the Doctor\u2019s movements,\u201d ordered the Cyber Leader.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cShe has most likely been briefed on Bananzas,\u201d replied the Cyber Deputy. \u201cShe will attempt to reach the Kong Elder.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe must reach the Lagoon Layer,\u201d declared the Cyber Leader. \u201cWe must learn the Kong Bananza and use the Banandium Root for the survival of the Cyber-race of this time. The Doctor must not interfere. Return to the Cyber Driller and set course for Sublayer 101.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cYes, Leader,\u201d obliged the Cyber Deputy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI shall begin transmission of our progress,\u201d said a Cyberman as they all entered the Cyber Driller.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cNo,\u201d replied the Cyber Leader. \u201cWe will run the risk of transmitting incomplete data if you do. Maintain communications silence with any Cyber Factions until we have learned all the Bananzas and obtained the Banandium Root.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Lagoon Layer, a peaceful, water-filled area with yellow grass, green and blue primates, and scrap metal used to make structures, inhabited by blue and green furred primates that fish for scrap, quite literally. The TARDIS arrived and the local Salvager Monkeys backed up from the sudden blue box that just appeared. The Doctor led everyone out and the Salvager Monkeys\u2019 faces lit up when they saw Donkey Kong and Pauline. \u201cDK! PAULINE!\u201d said the lead Salvager Monkey. \u201cWelcome back! It\u2019s been way too long! \u2026Those guys, on the other hand!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWhat about us?\u201d asked Peach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cDK and Pauline are welcome, outsiders like you-!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cYour xenophobia is misplaced, sir,\u201d replied the Doctor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThese guys are with us,\u201d explained Donkey Kong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe need to speak to the Kong Elder,\u201d said Pauline. \u201cCreatures called Cybermen are after him and the secrets of the Kong Bananza!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOh for-! He\u2019s already harassed by that lizard king and that turtle with the spiky shell!\u201d grumbled the lead Salvager Monkey. \u201cHe doesn\u2019t need these Cyber whatsits!\u201d Mario and Donkey Kong could make a pretty good guess at who the aforementioned Lizard King and Spiky-shelled Turtle were.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe can prevent his secrets from being stolen,\u201d offered Pauline. \u201cIs he still at the Elder\u2019s Court?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cNaturally,\u201d replied the lead Salvager Monkey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThen that\u2019s where we\u2019re going!\u201d declared Donkey Kong. \u201cAll of us! This way!\u201d Donkey Kong led everyone down to a container ship that had run aground years ago with a bridge connecting it to the landmass they were on. They crossed the bridge to find a massive gorilla with red headphones, a headdress made of bananas, banana bracelets, and a banana beard arguing with King K. Rool and Bowser!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
