\u201cSo you\u2019re stuck in one point in space\/time,\u201d remarked Batman. He then smirked. \u201cJust like us humans.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWipe that smirk off your face, Batman! It doesn\u2019t suit you!\u201d hissed the Master.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cSo you need the Quake Engine to restore your time travel capabilities,\u201d said the Doctor. She then looked at the Penguin. \u201cWhat about your angle, Mayor Cobblepot?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cDo you know how the Quake Engine works?\u201d asked the Penguin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cCan\u2019t say as I do.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cBatman, you tell her. You were caught up in its effects along with us.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe Quake Engine,\u201d began Batman, \u201ctreats time like origami, folding it into various shapes.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWhat?!\u201d gasped the Doctor. \u201cThat\u2019s dangerous! One mistake and you tear time like an amateur origami artist tears paper!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe Quake Engine can also be used to rewrite parts of history,\u201d continued Batman. \u201cAfter my adventure in Japan, Ra\u2019s Al Ghul got ahold of it and used it to try and eliminate all but the strongest of humanity, rewriting the Justice League\u2019s history so they would become Yakuza members. Because we existed outside of time for a brief moment, we could access the Quake Engine and refold history back into its proper shape. I thought we took it apart.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cYou did,\u201d replied the Penguin, \u201cbut you know me, Batman. I have a nose for information!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cSo your thugs attacked one of the vaults hiding a part of the Quake Engine!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI then blundered here and found the Penguin working on the Quake Engine,\u201d explained the Master, \u201cand offered my help in helping him turn history into its coherent state in return for locating my TARDIS.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cMayor Cobblepot, you have to stop this!\u201d warned the Doctor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cNice try, but a lady\u2019s tears won\u2019t move me!\u201d dismissed the Penguin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI don\u2019t know what the Master has planned, but this ISN\u2019T about recovering his TARDIS in the long run!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cDoctor, you\u2019ve entertained the Mayor and I with your theories long enough,\u201d said the Master. \u201c\u2026Now, my Laser Screwdriver? You DID take it while Batman explained the Quake Engine.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201c\u2026Oh well,\u201d sighed the Doctor as she handed over a rod with three laser emitters on one end. \u201cCan\u2019t blame a Time Lady for trying.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cDoctor, that trick hasn\u2019t worked on me since the days of the Academy!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI think we\u2019ve heard enough!\u201d snapped the Penguin. \u201cBatman, you and your friends can leave!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cCome on, everyone,\u201d said the Doctor. \u201cI think we heard enough.\u201d She and her friends then left.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cRight then,\u201d grumbled the Master. \u201cNow, if Young Martin can return with the power supply, that would be splendid!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201c\u2026I didn\u2019t see him when I brought those guys here,\u201d remarked the Penguin. He pressed a comms button. \u201cSecurity, someone find that boy.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cSir, he left a minute ago,\u201d replied the guard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWHAT?!\u201d shouted the Penguin and the Master.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Back in the Batmobile, the Doctor, Winston, Batman, and Tysar were discussing what they learned. \u201cWhy would the Master want a coherent past if he\u2019s planning on ruling all of time and space?\u201d muttered Winston. \u201cAnd why would they WANT to preserve Martin Luther\u2019s history?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe Master isn\u2019t exactly a civil rights activist,\u201d remarked the Doctor. \u201cQuestions, questions.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cPerhaps I can provide some answers?\u201d asked the voice of a young boy! Batman turned towards an empty alley and stopped the Batmobile. Everyone turned to see Young Martin in the Batmobile with them!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWhat are you doing here?!\u201d yelped Tysar. \u201cIt\u2019s not safe!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt\u2019s safer than staying with those two,\u201d replied Young Martin. \u201cAnd I know what they\u2019re up to. They both plan to be the sole ruler of time and space.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cBecause, of course, they don\u2019t trust each other,\u201d sighed the Doctor. \u201cBut that doesn\u2019t explain why\u2026Winston, something on your person is beeping.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cHuh?\u201d Winston listened to the beeping. \u201c\u2026That\u2019s my PKE Meter,\u201d he said. He pulled out the device and the arms of the PKE meter flashed and moved to a near vertical position when the device was waved over Young Martin. \u201cWhat the-?! The living shouldn\u2019t have a PKE reading! \u2026Unless\u2026\u201d The Doctor and Winston goggled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201c\u2026He didn\u2019t, did he?!\u201d whispered the Doctor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWhat is it, Doctor?\u201d asked Tysar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201c\u2026That would explain why the temporal degradation is so slow,\u201d muttered the Doctor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI met him once before on the job,\u201d said Winston. \u201cLet me compare notes.\u201d He pulled out a notebook and looked between the numbers on the PKE meter and the numbers in the book. \u201c\u2026It is! Martin Luther King\u2019s ghost is possessing his younger self!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWhat?!\u201d asked Batman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cA pleasure to see you again, Dr. Zeddemore,\u201d greeted Martin Luther King Jr, America\u2019s greatest Civil Rights hero!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cSo, the mind of your younger self is asleep!\u201d realized the Doctor. \u201cYou\u2019re keeping him from learning too much of the future!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThat\u2019s the idea, Doctor,\u201d confirmed Martin Luther King Jr. \u201cWhen people started forgetting and I saw my younger body outside the Gotham courthouse, I had to try something. But it seems as if my possessing my younger self has consequences.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cYes, but it slowed down the rate of people forgetting you, Dr. King,\u201d said the Doctor. \u201cWe need to bring your younger self back to when you jumped out of your house\u2019s second story.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cInteresting that I was plucked out of time at a low end of my life.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe Grouping doesn\u2019t really have much in the way of rhyme or reason.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe Grouping?\u201d asked Tysar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThose chronal surges are happening all across time and space,\u201d said the Doctor. She then snapped her fingers as she remembered something. \u201cBatman, you and the Justice League are going to meet my past self, but it will happen in your future. You need to remember to tell my past self about the Grouping.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cGot it,\u201d replied Batman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cDoctor, I know what the Quake Engine is being used for,\u201d said Martin Luther King Jr. \u201cThe Penguin mentioned something about a bird man castle and how he intends to use the Quake Engine to power it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cChojin-jo?! He\u2019s rebuilt it?!\u201d asked Batman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cChojin-jo being?\u201d asked Tysar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt\u2019s the Penguin\u2019s robotic fortress, also called Chojin Bird-Man Castle, from when the Quake Engine was first used so the Gotham Villains could take over Feudal Japan!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cBut that would mean starting the Industrial Revolution too early for Japan!\u201d yelped the Doctor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe fixed that, thank goodness,\u201d replied Batman. \u201cBut if the Penguin\u2019s getting his old castle working-!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cHe\u2019ll rule not only Gotham, but the entire eastern seaboard of the United States,\u201d finished the Doctor. \u201cWe have to find Chojin Bird Man Castle! Dr. King, do you know where-?!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe main factory\u2019s in the underground pumps station,\u201d explained Martin Luther King Jr.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThat\u2019s Killer Croc\u2019s old lair,\u201d remarked Batman. \u201cThe pumps are supposed to keep Gotham Bay from flooding.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cApropos that a man that themes himself after an aquatic bird should choose that for his base,\u201d said the Doctor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the underground pumps station, the Penguin and the Master were putting the finishing touches on Chojin Bird-Man Castle. \u201cAnd there we go!\u201d laughed the Master as he made the last connection. \u201cAll done!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cPerfect!\u201d cackled the Penguin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cHold it!\u201d called Batman\u2019s voice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cPenguin! Master! Drop this nonsense now!\u201d shouted the Doctor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cNo!\u201d snarled the Master. \u201cNot while I\u2019m so close! You won\u2019t stop me this time, Doctor! Hand over Young Dr. King and I\u2019ll return him to his native time, then come back and rule over this planet!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cBit of a complication in returning him,\u201d replied the Doctor. \u201cIn any event, you can\u2019t launch this contraption! It\u2019ll fold the Time Vortex into five dimensions instead of the usual four!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI\u2019ve come too close! You\u2019ll not ruin my plans this time, Doctor!\u201d The Master grabbed a fencing foil and swung at the Doctor. The Doctor grabbed another and the two dueled. The Doctor noticed a tray of sushi with chopsticks nearby and dueled the Master long enough to disarm him and point her foil\u2019s tip at his left-hand heart. She then grabbed the chopsticks and used them to pick up a sushi roll.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI still find that violent exercise makes me rather hungry. Do you?\u201d The Doctor ate the sushi roll with a grin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cSmile all you want, Doctor!\u201d snarled the Master. \u201cIt\u2019s still launch capable! One voice command is all that\u2019s necessary.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cDon\u2019t you dare!\u201d warned the Doctor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOh, I\u2019ll more than dare! Chojin-jo! HASSHIN!\u201d \u2026Nothing happened. \u201c\u2026Chojin-jo\u2026hasshin!\u201d The Master tried again. \u201c\u2026Oh for-! CHOJIN-JO! HASSHIN!\u201d The Master then felt a sharp pain in his right-hand heart. The Doctor saw it in his eyes, he was NOT faking it! He clutched the heart like one does when they\u2019re having a heart attack!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWhat in-?!\u201d The Doctor felt for his heartbeat. \u201c\u2026No electrical signal?! How-?!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cA little something I picked up in the Orient!\u201d cackled the Penguin. \u201cYou really think I\u2019d let an alien like the Master or you, Doctor, control MY history?!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cYou paranoid little-!\u201d snarled the Master through his heart attack. \u201cWE HAD A DEAL!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAnd now I have a better one, what with me learning how to stop the electrical signals to a heart! Thanks for leaving your Laser Screwdriver out! Now\u2026time to feather the nest I built!
