\u201cOPEN UP IN THERE!\u201d shouted Demna as he banged on the lab\u2019s door. \u201cI KNOW A PREFABRICATED LAB WHEN I SEE ONE!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cHe\u2019s not listening,\u201d muttered Sailor Pluto.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cMaybe I can get us in,\u201d said Eric as he pulled out a red handheld device. \u201cQUANTUM POWER!\u201d he called. A red suit and full-face helmet then appeared over him as he assumed his identity as the Quantum Ranger.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cEric, your Ranger form is overkill!\u201d protested the Doctor. \u201cNo, this requires finesse.\u201d She pulled out her sonic screwdriver.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWell, good thing the door\u2019s not wood,\u201d chuckled Sailor Pluto. The Doctor switched the screwdriver on and aimed it at the door\u2026but nothing happened.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWhat?\u201d muttered the Doctor. She buzzed the door again, but still nothing. She checked the readings. \u201c\u2026Drat! He\u2019s deadlocked the door! All right, Eric, go ahead.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cQuantum Defender it is!\u201d said the Quantum Ranger. He pulled out a red and silver t-rex themed gun and fired at the door lock. The lock exploded and the door opened. The Quantum Ranger mimed blowing on the barrel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201c\u2026You DO realize that\u2019s a laser, right?\u201d asked Tevik.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOh, bite me!\u201d replied the Quantum Ranger. \u201cIt\u2019s cool!\u201d The group then entered the lab.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt\u2019s dark in here,\u201d muttered the Doctor. \u201cI really must start carrying a torch!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cFound the lights,\u201d replied Demna.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cSwitch them on,\u201d ordered Tavis. The lights switched on and everyone could see the tubes with what looked like mounds of over-cooked spinach in them\u2026barring one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cNow that IS peculiar,\u201d muttered the Doctor. She then spotted a recording device. \u201cI wonder.\u201d She then played back what Vrelan had recorded earlier. \u201c\u2026Smaller subjects?\u201d muttered the Doctor. \u201cWhat-?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cDoctor!\u201d called Tysar, slightly panicked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWhat is-?\u201d The Doctor gasped when she saw the final tube. Inside it wasn\u2019t a vegetable mound\u2026but a Dalek creature!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cEugh!\u201d gagged the Quantum Ranger. \u201cWhat IS that?!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThat\u2019s what a Dalek really looks like inside its casing,\u201d replied the Doctor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cTHAT\u2019S a Dalek?!\u201d protested the Quantum Ranger. \u201cThe most evil life-form in existence?!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThen the mounds are-?!\u201d gulped Tysar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThey USED to be Daleks like our friend here,\u201d replied the Doctor. \u201cBut somehow, they came into contact with Krynoid DNA. Not exactly ideal for a Krynoid host.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWhy would Vrelan want to do that?!\u201d shuddered Tavis. \u201cThe Daleks are evil, but we can\u2019t inflict suffering on them! Otherwise we\u2019d be no better than the Daleks!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe same kind of thing I said to myself when I found myself at the Daleks\u2019 Genesis,\u201d said the Doctor, recalling the incubation room and the wires she held in her fourth incarnation\u2019s hand and Sarah Jane and Harry trying to urge her, rather HIM, to complete his mission for the Time Lords.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cBut why make green bombs, Doctor?\u201d asked Sailor Pluto.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cTavis, Tysar, are there any on New Davius that would see the Thals return to Skaro?\u201d asked the Doctor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe Reclamationists,\u201d replied Tysar. \u201cThey think we can somehow push the Daleks off Skaro and retake it, making it a planet for purely Thals to live on. Basically, we should do to the Daleks what they did to us, at least that\u2019s what a Reclamationist would say.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cFan out and search,\u201d ordered Tavis. \u201cBut be careful. His logs said that the control variable\u2019s still alive.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cTysar, Sailor Pluto, Eric, you stick close to me,\u201d directed the Doctor. As everyone left, the Dalek creature looked intently at their retreating forms. Then it focused on the glass imprisoning it and prepared to hurl itself against the glass!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Demna had his side arm in his hand, looking fierce. \u201cNo Reclamationist\u2019s gonna make ME move here!\u201d he growled. \u201cI\u2019ll-!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cExcuse me, but what are you doing here?\u201d asked Vrelan\u2019s voice as he stepped out of the shadows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cDr. Vrelan, you\u2019d better not be a Reclamationist!\u201d warned Demna. \u201cIf I find out that this whole thing is supposed to \u2018reclaim Skaro for the Thal Race\u2019, I\u2019ll-!\u201d Vrelan kicked the gun out of Demna\u2019s hand then stuck a syringe into his neck! Demna collapsed to the ground with Vrelan making it so the impact didn\u2019t make so much noise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI\u2019m sorry, Commander,\u201d said Vrelan, \u201cbut I can\u2019t let you stop me, not when we CAN reclaim Skaro and drive the Daleks away. \u2026It seems the experiment must take a different course.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Tysar was bouncing her knee up and down, looking around nervously. \u201cDoctor, are we really safe?\u201d asked Sailor Pluto, verbalizing Tysar\u2019s question.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cRelatively, yes,\u201d said the Doctor. \u201cBut this IS Skaro we\u2019re talking about and-.\u201d She was interrupted by a scream.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThat was Demna!\u201d yelped Tysar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cCome on!\u201d called the Doctor. By now, everyone rushed to Demna\u2019s position. He was convulsing bad. The Doctor knelt down and saw green hives on his hand!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cHe\u2019s been in contact with a Krynoid pod!\u201d she warned. \u201cEveryone, keep back!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cDoctor, are we sure of that?\u201d asked Tysar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt\u2019s the only logical explanation!\u201d replied the Doctor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThen\u2026why is there a puncture mark on his neck?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWhat?!\u201d The Doctor caught sight of the puncture mark! \u201c\u2026This isn\u2019t because of a pod! The Krynoid DNA\u2019s been administered via a syringe!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201c\u2026Vrelan!\u201d hissed Tavis. \u201cThat must be the deployment system he talked about in his logs!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe need to get him to sick bay!\u201d urged Tevik.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAgreed! Come on, Demna!\u201d The Doctor and Tavis helped the infected Demna up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Demna was tied down as the hives were turning into vines. \u201cI\u2019m going to try and save him, but I don\u2019t have much hope,\u201d said the Doctor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe sedatives won\u2019t wear off for a while yet,\u201d reported Tevik. \u201cWe need to find Vrelan and make him pay!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cDoctor, we\u2019ll stand guard here,\u201d offered Tavis. \u201cYou just keep my sister and our friends safe as you look for him, all right?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cGot it,\u201d replied the Doctor. The group then left.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cSir, do you think there\u2019s any hope for Demna?\u201d asked Tevik.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI don\u2019t know, Lieutenant,\u201d sighed Tavis. \u201cAll we can do is hope the Doctor can prevent his death.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The group arrived at a locked part of the lab. \u201cLet\u2019s see what\u2019s behind door number one, shall we?\u201d asked the Doctor. She buzzed the door and it opened with ease. They entered the room and took stock.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cLook at all this!\u201d said the Quantum Ranger. \u201cWhat\u2019s it all for?!\u201d The Doctor examined the notes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cMilitarized terraforming!\u201d she growled. \u201cThat\u2019s what this is all about! It\u2019s not just to reclaim Skaro, it\u2019s to weaponize the telepathic control Krynoids have over other plants!\u201d The Doctor then heard the familiar rattling noise Krynoids make! She turned to see a Krynoid in its humanoid shape within arm\u2019s reach of the Quantum Ranger and Sailor Pluto! \u201cEric! Setsuna! Get back!\u201d The two turned around and jumped back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIs that a Krynoid?!\u201d yelped Tysar. The Doctor noticed how brown it was.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201c\u2026Yes, but it\u2019s malnourished,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIs that\u2026dried blood on its tendrils?\u201d asked Sailor Pluto.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201c\u2026Yes. In fact, it\u2019s dried Slyther blood, along with dried THAL blood!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThal?! You mean Vrelan\u2019s fed his team to this thing?!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cYes, but it looks like he\u2019s really stretched out the time between meals, watering, and time in the sun for this poor thing.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cA necessary sacrifice I was willing to make,\u201d came Vrelan\u2019s voice. Everyone turned to see Vrelan with a modified Dalek gun in his hand!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cVrelan, this is obscene!\u201d snarled the Doctor. \u201cWhat you\u2019re doing is wrong! You\u2019ve killed your entire team and-!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cMy ENTIRE team, Doctor?\u201d asked Vrelan. \u201cI think you\u2019ll find Varsa is very much alive.\u201d He nodded to the sickly Krynoid. \u201cThough she won\u2019t be for long.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cVarsa?!\u201d yelped Tysar. \u201cThat\u2019s my childhood friend!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cDemna should serve to be a better candidate for what I have planned,\u201d said Vrelan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWhat, weaponized terraforming?\u201d asked the Doctor. \u201cCareful, that\u2019s a Dalek method.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cNo! It\u2019s different!\u201d insisted Vrelan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI see no difference! You tap into the Krynoid\u2019s telepathic field and then what? Command it to kill the Daleks, bring any survivors to you so you can convert them into your green bombs and detonate them to make new jungles, is that it?!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe Daleks will finally create something worthwhile through their deaths! And I have the means to control the Krynoids! They\u2019ll be cultivated into something better! All the worlds the Daleks brought under their control? We can restore them! The Daleks never cared about the natural world of each planet they control! Not even Skaro! Well, the Daleks will learn what happens when you anger Mother Nature and-!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis isn\u2019t part of the natural world!\u201d argued the Doctor. \u201cBending plants to someone\u2019s will, especially a Krynoid, will get someone killed!\u201d Then\u2026they heard a crash, like glass shattering. \u201c\u2026Oh no!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201c\u2026Demna?\u201d asked Tysar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cNo! I haven\u2019t fitted the control collar on him yet!\u201d yelped Vrelan. The Doctor then spotted what she initially thought was a red boiler\u2026but upon closer inspection, she saw a plunger, an elongated whisk, black hemispheres, a pair of dome lamps, and an eyestalk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201c\u2026Those Daleks you used,\u201d she said, \u201cwere they Paradigm ones?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cMere drones, why?\u201d asked Vrelan. Just then, two people outside screamed!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cTavis?!\u201d yelped Tysar. Tavis stumbled in, trying to get something off of him! The Doctor realized that it was the sole uninfected Dalek!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cGET THAT THING OFF HIM!\u201d she called. Everyone, sans Vrelan, rushed to get the Dalek off Tavis, then the Dalek leapt off and scurried towards the Paradigm Drone casing. It opened the top, then slithered into the casing and closed it! The eyestalk then switched on! It had a yellow light with a blue pupil shaped after a goat\u2019s. The casing\u2019s limbs and eyestalk then twitched and rose upwards until they were level with everything. The dome swiveled so the eyestalk could take everything in. It spotted the sickly Krynoid, then aimed its gunstick!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cEXTERMINATE!\u201d it shouted. It then fired, killing the sickly Krynoid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cNO! YOU FOOL!\u201d shouted Vrelan. \u201cYOU\u2019RE RUINING THE-!\u201d The Dalek fired its gunstick on Vrelan, exterminating him and taking its revenge. It then looked directly at the Doctor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
