\u201cShe also said we\u2019re in Gotham, Tin Man,\u201d replied Wolverine. \u201cRemember how much of a hellhole it is?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cYou\u2019re not questioning how you got here?\u201d asked Tysar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cLady, this ain\u2019t our first time travel rodeo,\u201d retorted Wolverine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWell, the method might be new to you,\u201d said the Doctor. \u201cIt was an energy wave called a chronal surge. That kind of energy wave takes random people and plops them into points of space and time that are foreign to them. Right now, there\u2019s a series of chronal surges, creating an event known as the Grouping. Tysar and I have been tracking the chronal surges and followed you two and a third person from the future\u2026a very ghastly future. \u2026Unfortunately, my arrival point could have been chosen better as I landed in a warehouse held by Gotham\u2019s greatest criminal, the Joker. My TARDIS had to choose a safer place to rest, so it vanished on me temporarily. I\u2019m going to need your help, gentlemen, and the help of the person from the future and Batman in order to find the TARDIS. With it returned to me, I can get you all home.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201c\u2026Fair deal to me,\u201d remarked Iron Man.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cSame,\u201d agreed Wolverine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cExcellent!\u201d cheered the Doctor. \u201cBatman went that way towards the warehouse, so he\u2019ll be busy with the Joker.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Doctor was right. Batman had already taken out the Joker\u2019s thugs and was going after him, dodging or deflecting all the Joker\u2019s tricks. Acid boutonniere, razor playing cards, giant hammer, gun, they paled in comparison to Batman\u2019s bag of tricks. \u201cCome on, Batsy!\u201d taunted the Joker. \u201cDo you really think you have time to stop me?! Don\u2019t you have a gala to host at Wayne Manor?!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThere\u2019s always room in my schedule for stopping criminals,\u201d replied Batman. As he prepared to throw a batarang at the Joker, a glowing, golden rope wrapped around the Joker\u2019s wrist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cHey, who invited little miss bondage?!\u201d cackled the Joker.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cLittle?\u201d asked Batman. Little was NOT a word Batman would use with the owner of the rope. The Joker was then launched through the roof of the warehouse as the rope untied itself from his wrist. Batman looked up through the hole. \u201c\u2026You know, Diana,\u201d he remarked, \u201cyou didn\u2019t give it that Joker shape. He would have-.\u201d He stopped when he saw his friend. She\u2026looked haggard, wore black and gray armor instead of her usual red, blue, and gold outfit, and carried a sword and shield. \u201c\u2026Wonder Woman?\u201d asked Batman. \u201cWhat happened to you?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWhat happened to me?\u201d asked Wonder Woman. \u201cApparently I was sent back in time to when you were alive, Bruce.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201c\u2026So you\u2019re from the future,\u201d remarked Batman. \u201cA chronal surge?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI have no idea what that is, but an energy wave plucked me from 2167 and put me here. \u2026When is this?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201c2029,\u201d called the Doctor as she stepped into the warehouse. \u201cAnd that energy wave is called a chronal surge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cDoctor?\u201d asked Batman. \u201cSo the Grouping\u2019s still going on.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cSadly, yes,\u201d said the Doctor. \u201cAnd, in order to fix time, I have to send Iron Man, Wolverine, and Wonder Woman back to their proper times. \u2026Therein lies the problem. Before you arrived, the Joker attacked in a way that made my TARDIS think the area wasn\u2019t safe for it, so it moved itself, so I\u2019ll need everyone\u2019s help to find it so Iron Man and Wolverine can live to the end of their days and Wonder Woman can see the end of the Dalek Occupation in 2167.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe end? \u2026Doctor, there IS no end to their occupation,\u201d sighed Wonder Woman. Everyone could tell that her spirit was broken somehow and she was just focused on survival.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201c\u2026What happened?\u201d asked Batman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cDiana\u2026does Themyscira-?\u201d asked the Doctor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt\u2019s all gone, Doctor,\u201d replied Wonder Woman. \u201cThe island, my sisters, my mother, all of it! The Daleks just killed them all! And not just them! The Avengers, the Justice League, the X-men, the Teen Titans, for Hera\u2019s sake! \u2026They all died defending the planet. The Daleks succeeded where Darkseid failed. Even his Parademons couldn\u2019t destroy them. They somehow even immunized themselves against his Omega Effect! I don\u2019t even know what their mission is!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cTo mine Earth\u2019s core and replace it with an interstellar engine,\u201d said the Doctor. \u201cThe primary mineshaft is in England, Bedfordshire to be precise.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201c\u2026How on Earth do you-?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cBecause the Daleks fail in that regard, thanks her first incarnation,\u201d explained Tysar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201c\u2026Don\u2019t give me hope, child,\u201d sighed Wonder Woman. \u201cHope died a long time ago.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThat\u2019s what the humans thought too, at least the general population,\u201d said the Doctor. \u201cBut\u2026there ARE resistance groups.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201c\u2026You\u2019re sure?\u201d asked Wonder Woman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThey helped me defeat the Daleks in that time,\u201d confirmed the Doctor. \u201cWhen I send you back, you must promise me you\u2019ll find a resistance group. Give them the hope they need to fight back! You\u2019ll see the end of the occupation! You\u2019ll avenge the Amazons by defying the Daleks and saying to them \u2018No! Earth will NOT be exterminated!\u2019 \u2026Now, I can\u2019t say that the pain of being the last will go away. It never does. \u2026But you CAN prevent others from suffering that fate!\u201d Wonder Woman looked at the Doctor\u2026and saw genuine understanding in her eyes. \u2026The Amazon then clenched her fist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201c\u2026You\u2019re right, Doctor!\u201d she said. \u201cMy friends would not give up\u2026neither will I!\u201d There was a ferocity in her voice, a ferocity she had forgotten so long ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cFirst things first, Wondy,\u201d said Wolverine. \u201cWe gotta find her box.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt\u2019s still in Gotham, probably near here,\u201d explained the Doctor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201c\u2026Hey, didn\u2019t someone go through the roof?\u201d asked Iron Man.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201c\u2026You\u2019re right, the Joker should have come back by now.\u201d A portal then appeared above their heads and the Joker fell out of it, landing face first on the ground. He picked himself up and snarled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201c\u2026I HAVE BEEN FALLING\u2026FOR THIRTY MINUTES!\u201d he shouted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWhoever cast that portal must have slowed down time in that hole,\u201d remarked the Doctor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI thought it would amuse me, Doctor,\u201d replied a voice the Doctor hadn\u2019t heard in a long time. Stepping into the warehouse with divine swagger reserved for those that were so sure of their power was a man with black hair in a green outfit with gold trim and a gold helmet with horns on it. He carried a spear with a green stone in it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201c\u2026Loki Laufeyson,\u201d greeted the Doctor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe Norse god of trickery and fire?\u201d asked Wonder Woman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cHey, just a second!\u201d protested the Joker. \u201cI didn\u2019t get my prize yet!\u201d He pointed at the stone in the spear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOh yes, the deal we made,\u201d said Loki. \u201cMy apologies.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cLoki, what are you talking about?\u201d asked Iron Man. \u201cAnd why do you have the Time Stone?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt\u2019s my best weapon of keeping Omega at bay,\u201d replied Loki. The Doctor flinched at that. \u201c\u2026Ah, you know of whom I speak, don\u2019t you, Doctor?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201c\u2026Doc, you wanna shed some light?\u201d asked Wolverine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201c\u2026Omega was one of the founders of Time Lord society,\u201d explained the Doctor. \u201cHe was a brilliant stellar engineer and learned how to harness a singularity to become a rich source of power for my people. \u2026But his experiments sent him to an anti-matter universe and he went mad with revenge against the universe for thinking the Time Lords had abandoned him in favor of Rassilon. This current Grouping crisis is the result of him trying to escape once again.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cTrying to, Doctor?\u201d chuckled Loki. \u201cNo. Omega IS free and walks our universe. He\u2019s developed a full body for himself. With the Time Stone, I can track him down and slay him!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cNo, Loki, you can\u2019t!\u201d replied the Doctor. \u201cHis power is too much, even for you or Darkseid! Even all six Infinity Stones and the Omega Effect can\u2019t stop him!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI\u2019m willing to put that to the test,\u201d dismissed Loki. \u201cBut first, a little test. Wonder Woman, you came from 2167, is that right?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThat\u2019s correct,\u201d replied Wonder Woman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThen I think you know who I will summon.\u201d The wicked grin revealed his intentions! Wonder Woman used her lasso to grab the spear and pull it towards her.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cNever!\u201d she snarled with Amazonian zeal! \u201cNo one in this century will suffer those monsters!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cGive that back, you primitive!\u201d snarled Loki as he prepared his magic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI went to a lot of trouble getting that thing,\u201d said the Joker as he aimed his gun, \u201cand I intend to keep it!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI\u2019m sorry, 2029 is closed to evil today!\u201d retorted Iron Man as he fired a repulsor beam at the Joker. The clown was knocked back as Loki fired his own magic blast, but Wonder Woman deflected it with her shield. Batman then got up close and kneed Loki in the stomach, winding the Asgardian.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
