Chapter 3: More Than Meets the Eye

In another world beyond the Realms, a game court was being used. It was a basketball court made for giants. Right now, said giants were playing the game. The giants were metal and had various vehicle parts attached to them. Right now, a red and blue robot with antennae on his helmet and smokestacks on a backpack was dribbling the ball to the other team’s hoop. “He shoots, he scores, what a star!” boasted the robot. He then passed the ball to a shorter robot with a car’s front for a chest unit. The shorted robot dribbled the ball.

“You watch, Prime!” called the shorter bot. “I’m about to do a lay-off!”

“It’s called a lay-up, Jazz!” corrected the red and blue bot, the Autobot Leader, Optimus Prime. “And watch out for Sky Runner!” A female robot with jet wings then popped up in front of the shorter bot, Jazz, and tried to prevent a shot.

“Yo! Megs!” called Jazz. He passed the ball to a male robot with alien jet parts, the former Decepticon Lord, Megatron. Megatron dribbled the ball a bit as his son, another bot with jet parts, Galvatron, tried to block his shot. Megatron then saw an opening for one of his teammates. He and Optimus locked optics and Optimus grinned. Megatron quickly passed the ball and Optimus leapt up to the basket, twisted in the air, and dunked the ball behind his back!

“GAME!” called a woman’s voice. A black-armored robot woman, Optimus’ wife, Blackarachnia, came running up. “And that’s 27 for the older generation and 26 for the young’uns!”

“Slaggit!” swore Galvatron.

“Language!” rebuked Megatron.

“I have to admit,” panted Optimus, “I almost lost that one!”

“It was rather hectic, I must admit, us going against our own kids,” mused Megatron.

“Sorry,” interjected the jet woman, Sky Runner, one of Optimus and Blackarachnia’s daughters, “are we gonna gloss over the fact that Uncle Megatron said ‘language’?”

“I know, I know,” grunted Megatron.

“Well, I don’t know about you bots,” called Jazz, “but I’m eager to see that Moboball in action.”

“What IS that, anyways?” asked Galvatron.

“You heard of Calvinball?” quizzed Blackarachnia.

“Yeah, I have all the Calvin and Hobbes collections.” Galvatron then made a connection. “Ah, it’s Mobian Calvinball.”

“It’s Mobian Calvinball,” confirmed Blackarachnia.

“Then let’s go see it,” declared Optimus. “Oh, and everyone, we want clean language here! Can’t hurt Megatron’s audio receptors too badly!”

“You know, Prime, it’s talk like that that makes me want to shoot you again!” growled Megatron.

“Careful, Dad, that’s almost a cuss!” chuckled Galvatron. Megatron cycled air through his olfactory sensors.

“That’s not going away any time soon, is it?” he grunted to himself.

A silver hedgehog with five quills sprouting from his forehead, Silver, poked his head around a tree and eyed a flag. He then got out a tennis racket and a badminton birdie. He hit the birdie and it hit the flag. “That’s three points!” he called.

“All right then,” called his pink brother, Daniel. “The score is six for me, ten for Shade, eight for Sandy, and four for you!”

“I already HAD four!” protested Silver. A red hedgehog girl, Shade, then breezed past in a potato sack with a human woman, Sandy, in hot pursuit. Silver saw a chance. “Hold it, Shade!” he called. “You just ran into the No-eyes Sector! You’re gonna have to cover your eyes!”

“No-eyes Sector?” muttered Shade as she and Sandy stopped. “I never heard of that. Where is it?”

“You can’t see it,” replied Daniel. “It’s unseen.” Shade covered her eyes.

“How do I know I went in it then?”

“You can’t see anything, right?” asked Silver.

“So…how do I get out?”

“Someone bonks you and the boys on the head with the Moboball!” called Sandy as she bounced a ball on their heads. “I get two points each!” Shade, Silver, and Daniel then chased Sandy all around the field.

“That was a rotten rule!” shouted Shade.

“I wasn’t even gonna add that!” growled Silver. “I decree no more headbonks!”

“I’ll show you!” called Daniel. “You just ran into a dizzy spot! You have to spin around for a minute and then try to walk a straight line!”

“Sorry,” called Sandy, “but this dizzy spot is in an elder zone, so the eldest of us has to spin. Start spinning, Shade.”

“Oh no, you don’t!” argued Shade as she pulled out a card with a rose on it. “I invoke my Return to Sender card! The person who tried to deflect the punishment is unable to avoid it! So spin!”

“That’s not fair!” wailed Sandy.

“You know the Moboball rules,” chuckled Daniel, thankful for the save.

“Yeah, yeah,” grunted Sandy. “Anything we make up goes. Well, you’ll pay for this.” Sandy started spinning and getting dizzy. “This game lends itself to certain abuses.” Shade then looked at her discarded potato sack and grinned.

“Guess how you get out of the spot!” she chuckled. She then shoved the sack over Sandy’s head.

“HEY!” Sandy abruptly fell to the ground as Optimus and his family headed up to them.

“Hey guys!” he called. “Who’s winning?”

“Wait, where are Sonic and Amy?” asked Blackarachnia. “I thought they were playing with you.”

“They were serving a penalty,” explained Silver. “Unnecessary flag-swiping.”

“So, where are they now?” asked Optimus. Sonic and Amy then came up to Megatron carrying a big bucket of water.

“…Your Majesties, wha-?” Sonic and Amy cut off Megatron’s question.

“This is a poem, please do as you’re told,” began Sonic.

“And here is a bucket of water, ice cold.”

“Take this water,” grumbled Amy, “and dump it on we.

Don’t hesitate, do it a.s.a.p.” Megatron arched an eyebrow, then grinned. He then dumped the contents of the bucket all over Sonic and Amy.

“I’ve been waiting years to do something like that!” he cackled.

“You kids just wait until YOU get a peril poem penalty!” Sonic called out to his sons and their friends. “You’ll be sorry then!”

“Well, until then, you two better make up for all those points you lost!” taunted Silver. As Sonic and Amy ran off after their kids, Optimus chuckled.

“Sweet Gaia,” he said, “it’s nice to see them like this.”

“Hey, Megatron!” called Jazz. “He said a bad language word!”

“Let it go, already!” snapped Megatron. “Sweet Chaos, you always-!” Megatron stopped as Amy was replaced by someone else in his optics. He rubbed them and saw Amy again. “…Royana?”

“Megatron?” asked Optimus, concerned for his brother.

“Sorry, I thought Amy was that kitsune friend you made.”

“You mean Arsha?” asked Optimus.

“Who’s Arsha?” asked Sky Runner.

“A princess from another universe I made friends with,” explained Optimus. “Her world, ours, and another world briefly merged with ours during an event called the Convergence.”

“This was when I led the Decepticons down a darker path,” supplied Megatron. “I made an alliance with Arsha’s enemy and a man named Hiro Adachi, leader of Shocker Rift. Without question, that event was an unmitigated disaster! I met with Daleks, Kamen Riders, cyborg fairies, and this whole thing was just after Nemesis Prime’s bid for power!”

“So, you had enough of alternate universes after that,” guessed Galvatron.

“MORE than enough, dear boy. Take my advice, stick to matters in THIS universe. Other universes are not your concern.”

“Come on, I’m sure it wasn’t all that bad,” remarked Optimus.

“Optimus, I don’t know if you remember, but Hiro planted a torture device in my head and Dr. Borg wanted to dissect the Decepticons!” Just then Sonic, his family, Sandy, and Shade came up to them.

“Hey guys!” called Sonic, now looking dryer. “What’s up?”

“Just chatting,” explained Optimus. “Telling our kids about the Convergence.”

“Ah, the Convergence,” sighed Amy happily. “And the 3V2R! Remember when you and Arsha forgot your fight terms?”

“Fight terms?” asked Galvatron. “3V2R?”

“Yeah!” answered Sonic. “Optimus got third place in a fighting tournament!”

“It’s called the 3V2R, hosted by a race called the Chizarans,” explained Optimus. “I fought in a second one after the second war and got first place prize.”

“Oh, then you can’t fight in it anymore?” asked Amy.

“‘Fraid not.” Optimus then got a faraway look. “You know, given the war, I’d bet that they tried to contact us only to get nothing.”

“We WERE focused on something else at the time,” replied Megatron. “Primacron and Starscream leap readily to mind.”

“…Yeah. I guess I miss them.”

“Well, now’s a good time to try and call them up,” suggested Sonic.

“Do you have a means of calling them?” asked Sky Runner. Jazz winced.

“We did, at the old base,” he said.

“Scrap!” muttered Blackarachnia. “Unicron probably destroyed it when he smashed the old base.”

“Perhaps he saved that data,” mused Megatron.

“I’d be very surprised if he did in the chaos of transferring out of there,” remarked Optimus.

Rodimus Unicronus

Originally, he was Unicron. He was once worshipped as the Sun God, Solaris, but Soleannan scientists split him into two, his body and his mind. His mind was then captured in a scepter and imprisoned while his body was imprisoned in the young Princess Elise as the Flames of Disaster. Eggman attacked Soleanna and caused a mess while Shadow inadvertently freed the mind, giving it a new body through his own Shadow. At that moment, the new creature became Mephiles the Dark. Mephiles briefly reunited with the Flames of Disaster after killing Sonic, but he was restored to life with the Chaos Emeralds and he, Shadow, and the first version of Silver took him down. His mind was still active after his defeat and he killed Silver when he went back to his ruined time. He then went on another time-travel journey and convinced his past to wait for the Transformers. They didn’t have long to wait before both Autobots and Decepticons started shooting at each other. He then entered the Matrix and made Optimus go mad and try to kill Megatron. He ended up dying and the Matrix was passed to Hot Rod, now Rodimus Prime. Rodimus, his version of Silver, and Megatron, now recreated as Galvatron, went back in time, unintentionally bringing Mephiles along for the ride. During the Battle of Station Square, he was given a body based on Hot Rod’s shape and reborn as Rodimus Unicronus. After a pair of setbacks, he saw his old self rise. Unfortunately, he would be the first Terrorcon to die as an upgraded Optimus took him down and killed him. He wasted away in Hell until the Author brought him back to life and offered to make him a god of a new multiverse. Anything to finally get rid of Optimus Prime!

Straxus

Straxus was a vicious Decepticon, being the former Governor of Polyhex. He had a reputation for throwing live victims into the smelting pool behind his fortress of Darkmount. Thankfully, Decepticon High Command limited his activities, leading him to be bored. Unicron then contacted the psychopath and promised him the chance to endlessly murder his enemies in the most horrific fashion. That was what made Straxus sign up with Unicron. When the Autobots won the Great War, he was sentenced to prison and mental rehabilitation. He faked repentance and became a voice on the High Council. When his Necromancer student, Megatron, started the second war, he abandoned the Council and resumed his rule over Polyhex. He sent six Decepticons to Mobius so Unicron could scavenge them for his new body’s parts and bore witness to his return. Unfortunately, he didn’t make it all the way. Just after Deceptitran met his end, he was killed by his former student, Megatron, in the same way he killed his victims, melting down in a smelting pool. He then arrived in Hell and languished there with his fellows until the Author broke him out. He promised him godhood. Straxus has revenge on his mind and he intends to make sure Megatron stops functioning in the most horrific fashion.

Makeshift

Makeshift once started life as a Scraplet drone, always doing the bidding of the Scraplet Queen. When he began displaying behavior that was worrying to Scraplets, he was dumped elsewhere, like an ant with cordyceps. The symptoms he displayed were his own intelligence and his own ideas. When he wandered, he happened across a chamber filled with protoforms, Cybertronian newborns with no Spark. He bit into one and then merged with it. The resulting action liquidized the protoform and absorbed all the others into itself. The Scraplet’s mind was then introduced to new ways of thinking and soon wound up inadvertently contacting Unicron. Unicron played on the Scraplet’s desire to do his own thing, promising him freedom from drudgery and order. That sealed the deal and the Scraplet became the feared shape-shifting spy and assassin, Makeshift. He usually hung out with the Decepticons, then abandoned them. That led to his old body being destroyed and he was back to being a Scraplet, albiet a talking one. He got his body back when he made it to Mobius and took the protoform cargo of a crashed ship under the command of Starscream’s old Mini-con partner, Zapmaster. He still failed to get the Chaos Emerald and was punished for his failure, as were the other Terrorcons. He then saw his master rise and take control of Mobius. During the Year of Unicron, he was killed by Bumblebee as he wielded the reforged Skyboom Shield. He rotted in Hell for a while until the Author offered him and his friends godhood. He accepted and was restored to life. Now he’s after the pipsqueak who killed him.

Sideways

Sideways is a Xitran survivor like Shockwave and her team of Mini-cons. He has his own Mini-con team that can form different helmets with different elemental powers, but unlike Shockwave’s, his are nothing more than drones. He was made to be a Mini-con Program Specialist, making sure Mini-cons never deviated from their programmed functions. After Xitra, he drifted from planet to planet in despair. Unicron then took advantage of his grief, suggesting that if the universe wanted Xitra and her ways to die, then the universe would burn. He signed on with Unicron and played both Autobot and Decepticon. He eventually disguised himself as the Alien Hunt! host, Meteorfire, and drew Hot Rod and Cosmos in with him. During the Battle of Station Square, he was revealed and dropped hiding his intentions for the Allspark. Unfortunately, the battle ended when the Allspark was safely brought to Autobot custody, but he got a consolation prize out of killing Ironhide, Optimus’ father figure. After losing a Chaos Emerald to the Decepticons, one of his fellows’ contingencies bore fruit and gave rise to Unicron. During the Year of Unicron, he was killed by Bumblebee with the restored Skyboom Shield. He rusted in Hell until the Author brought him and his fellows back to the land of the living, and now he’s gonna tear Bumblebee (Goldbug Magnus) apart!

Deceptitran

Deceptitran was once a Fuel Auditor for the Decepticon cause. His gluttony led to him skimming Energon off the top. He got demoted so far down the ranks, he eventually left the Decepticons. During that low, Unicron spoke to him. He offered a deal: help him spread chaos and he can guzzle Energon to his Spark’s content. Deceptitran accepted and became a Terrorcon. He made it to Mobius after Unicron summoned him and, after a failure he was part of, bore witness to the Chaos Bringer’s rise. During the final months of the Year of Unicron, Megatron ambushed him and killed him with the reforged Requiem Blaster, then used his corpse as bait for his other target. He was sent to Hell for his crimes. After rotting there, he was restored to life by the Author’s hand, promising him a sweeter deal than Unicron’s. He’s ready to devour anyone who gets in his way.

Crystal Widow

Crystal Widow is Blackarachnia’s counterpart from Moebius’ universe. She came to Mobius when Nemesis Prime demanded a spy from Autobot High Command. She acted like a total bimbo when she was around the other Evil Autobots. Secretly, though, that was an act. Nemesis found that out and became infatuated with her when she displayed her smarts. She then explained that she was in contact with the Chaos Bringer, Unicron, and wanted in on his plans of spreading chaos. That prompted Nemesis to throw in his lot with Unicron and they eventually saw the rise of their master after two failures. Unfortunately, she met her end at the hands of Optimus after she wounded Blackarachnia. She rotted in Hell until the Author brought her and the other Terrorcons along for his journey to rewrite the multiverse.

Nemesis Prime

Once, he was Miles “Tails” Prower from Moebius, the mirror universe version of Mobius where heroes are villains and vice versa. After his universe’s Autobots landed, he and his former “friends” were attacked. Evil Optimus then pursued Evil Tails deeper into a lab. Evil Tails accidentally tripped on something that activated a weapon that slew the would-be tyrant. He then spent days working on a way to plug himself into Evil Optimus’ corpse and pilot it like his own mech. He did so and slew his old allies and took command of the Evil Autobots. He then recalled the misfortunes he and his old colleagues suffered at the hands of Sonic and surmised that there would be Autobots on Mobius. He then crossed the barrier between universes and met with Optimus one Halloween. After a bloody interrogation session, he learned how to access his own gun and axe and fought Optimus, only to lose. During the fight, he was rechristened as Nemesis Prime. After the defeat, he used his Matrix, the Grid of Domination, to forge a twisted version of the Star Saber. Before his next attempt to cross into Mobius’ universe, the Evil Blackarachnia revealed that she was in contact with Unicron, the Chaos Bringer. Unicron’s plans of unending terror and chaos suited him and so he enacted Unicron’s plan to have a physical body again. Unfortunately, the plan was set back twice, but the contingency was still in effect. The contingency worked and Unicron and his acolytes ruled Mobius for a year until Nemesis’ Terrorcon friends were killed by Optimus, Megatron, and Bumblebee. Nemesis survived and witnessed Unicron’s defeat and removal from his physical body again. That shortened his life-span and he fought Optimus one last time, using the Moebian Chaos Emeralds, the Anarchy Beryl. Sadly, the Beryl proved to be his undoing and he died in an explosion after he was tossed onto Korlonium Crystals. He spent years in Hell, meeting Hiro and his family and deprived of his powers. The Author then staged a breakout with him as a candidate for working to achieve his goals. Now, Nemesis Prime is back and is eager for revenge against Optimus.

He picked up on a Scots accent and went whole hog on the Scottish thing. He works as an espionage master for anyone that might attempt to steal Shockwave’s research. His hobbies include flying, eavesdropping, and traditional Scottish Highland sports. His espionage skills will be very useful for his allies when the Author attacks.
