Cultivating Trouble

As the Cosmic Roses and their hosts rested for the night, a young pretty boy in lordly clothes with a sword at his hip was patrolling the city at night. He was accompanied by a fat humanoid creature with claws on his fingers and brownish-green scaly skin as well as an extremely skinny humanoid creature with warts on his shoulders and luminous pink eyes as well as a line of wispy pink hair on the back of his head reaching down to the shoulders. “Let’s see here,” mused the boy, “where should we set up our base?”

“What about soldiers?” asked the fat creature. “We need people to find the Cosmic Roses.”

“Yeah, that IS something to figure out,” agreed the boy.

“Every red-blooded he-man is a potentate hunter!” said the skinny creature. “There’s one in every house!”

“…Lord Typhoon said that every red-blooded man is a POTENTIAL HUNTER,” scoffed the boy. “Don’t you listen, Spangly?!”

“I’m sure he said potentate hunter,” replied the skinny creature, Spangly.

“Come on, Connor’s right,” said the fat creature. “Besides, Lord Typhoon said we should appeal to the primitive in men, and we can’t go wrong.”

“That’s exactly what he said, Wreker,” confirmed the boy, Connor. “At least two of us can listen to him. We’ll cover more ground if we split up. GO!” The three then went into different directions…and ended up crashing into each other. “Why you!” Connor grabbed Spangly and Wreker, then turned them so they faced opposite directions. “Now…GO!” Wreker and Spangly then took off with Connor going in a third direction.

The next morning, Yazmyn woke up in her bed. She yawned and stretched, then got dressed. She then left her room. She heard snoring and it wasn’t her grandparents. She could smell breakfast anyways, so Hannah was clearly cooking. She then looked down the hall and saw that the guest room door was closed…and the snoring was coming from there. “Hey, Yazmyn!” called Bill. “Go wake up our guests! There’s work that needs doing!”

“Got it, Grandpa!” replied Yazmyn. She then knocked on the guest room door.

“Mmm…whoooo…?” mumbled Wilma’s voice.

“It’s Yazmyn! You girls gonna sleep the day away?”

“Yzz…oh! Hey! Grace! Belinda! Wake up!” Wilma’s friends groaned awake as memories of yesterday returned.

“You girls better hurry up or you’re all gonna miss breakfast!” warned Yazmyn as she headed downstairs.

“Morning, Kiddo,” said Hannah as she set breakfast down with Bill already sat down.

“Morning, Grandma, Grandpa,” said Yazmyn. She then heard three sets of footsteps heading downstairs. “And that’s our alien guests,” she said. Wilma, Grace, and Belinda all came downstairs wearing farm clothes instead of their rose outfits.

“Well, well, aren’t you three bright-eyed and bushy-tailed?” chuckled Bill.

“Did we miss morning chores?” asked Grace.

“Nah, not yet,” replied Yazmyn. “We’re getting into it after breakfast.”

“Then, after that, Yaz has free time,” said Bill, “so you girls can train her in whatever you feel is needed for her.”

“I already told my friends about when I usually have free time,” said Yazmyn, “so they’ll probably be coming later.”

“Not a bad idea,” said Wilma. “You girls DO need to learn how to use your new powers.” She then smiled as she took a bite. “Mmm! This is superb! What did you say this was?”

“It’s just bacon, eggs, and coffee,” replied Hannah.

“Bird eggs?” asked Belinda.

“Yep. From our chicken coop. …Why, do you girls usually eat fish eggs?”

“…Well, I’m sure some people from our planet did, but we stuck with birds,” said Grace. “And this bacon…which animal was it?”

“From the pigs,” said Yazmyn. “My advice, don’t make pets out of the animals here.”

“You may end up eating them?” guessed Grace. “I already made that mistake when I was a little girl on my farm.”

The morning chores were finished and Wilma, Grace, and Belinda proved to be very quick to pick up on how things were done. “Wow,” said Yazmyn. “You really are country girls at heart.”

“It was no idle boast,” said Grace.

“We told you the rank of Empress wasn’t anything really political,” said Wilma. “So, let’s see…you girls hear that?”

“Voices?” asked Belinda.

“…If there’s someone on MY farm-!” Yazmyn grabbed a hammer. “Come on!” She led her alien guests to follow the voices. No sooner did they see the speakers, the three yanked their human friend back!

“…Connor, Wreker, and Spangly!” whispered Grace. “Servants of Lord Typhoon!”

“What?!” hissed Yazmyn. “Well, let’s whack ‘em now and-!”

“NO!” hissed Belinda. “We need to hear what they’re planning!”

“-and there will be a shopping mall here, and a theater there! HAH!” laughed Connor. “It’s gonna be perfect!”

“Build a mall on MY farm, huh?” hissed Yazmyn.

“Come on, we need farms,” grumbled Wreker.

“Yeah, well, it’s too open and-!” Connor was interrupted by the sound of crashing waves. A huge mass of water then appeared and swirled before compressing into the shape of a man!

“…Lord Typhoon!” gasped Belinda.

“…Okay, that guy looks like a proper threat,” gulped Yazmyn.

“I see a trio of idle do-nothings just standing around!” announced Lord Typhoon to the villainous trio. “So…where are the bodies?”

“P-Presumably buried, Sir!” replied Connor. “The Entroopers DID conduct a raid yesterday.”

“Really?” asked Lord Typhoon. “Because until I see their bodies, I believe Countess Void’s minions did a better job of killing Cosmic Roses! By the end of this, I’ll have three corpses tied to the end of my ship!”

“Oh no, you won’t!” shouted Yazmyn as she broke cover.

“Yazmyn, WAIT!” yelped Belinda. Too late. She rushed at the four, hammer out and ready to whack some heads…only for Spangly’s shoulder’s to summon eyeballs that shot lasers! A few lasers hit Yazmyn.

“Well, well, well!” chuckled Lord Typhoon. “A human rushing at us, hm?”

“Hang on,” realized Connor. “That’s one of the three girls that ambushed the raid yesterday!”

“Ah! So you survived! …I’d say this is proof the Cosmic Roses survived, hm?” Lord Typhoon grabbed Yazmyn by the shirt and hoisted her up. “Where are they?”

“Up the creek!” replied Yazmyn. “That one right there! They call it Krahp’s Creek-!”

“Such language,” scoffed Lord Typhoon. He threw her down on the ground, hard! “When you meet them again, inform the Cosmic Roses that they have one Earth week to surrender or Earth will turn from a planet with seven continents with different ecosystems to a planet of perpetual storms and flooding! Connor! Wreker! Spangly! We are leaving!” He and his followers then teleported out. That was when Wilma rushed up to Yazmyn.

“Reckless!” she chided as she looked over Yazmyn. “That was reckless!”

“That got us some intel on their plans!” argued Yazmyn.

“Don’t argue! We’re getting you medical attention!”

“I’m all right!”

“YAZ!” called Ruby’s voice. She and Bethany arrived.

“Yaz, what happened?!” yelped Bethany.

“She charged at Lord Typhoon himself!” replied Wilma.

“SHE WHAT?!” Ruby glared at Yazmyn.

“Hey, he and his flunkies were trespassing on my farm and planning on turning this place into a mall!” argued Yazmyn.

“That’s what Typhoon’s minions wanted,” reminded Wilma. “Lord Typhoon wants to turn Earth into a planet of eternal storms.”

“And he issued an ultimatum,” continued Yazmyn. “We’ve got a week to surrender Wilma and her friends to him or he carries out his plans.”

“Lord Typhoon’s master wants you dead, right?” Bethany asked Wilma.

“He does,” confirmed Wilma. “You don’t think Lord Typhoon will keep his promise?”

“Not a chance,” said Bethany.

“Girls, Lord Typhoon knows who we are,” revealed Yazmyn. “He’s heard the reports from the Entrooper attack yesterday!

“…We need to fight him somehow,” muttered Ruby.

“…Then we really DO need to train you in using magic,” sighed Wilma. “I was hoping to put it off so you girls could have normal lives, but…no, you’re right. He must be stopped. Grace, Belinda, come out.” Grace and Belinda left their hiding place. “We’ve got a time table, you two.”

“Drat!” hissed Belinda.

“So what’s the first lesson?” asked Yazmyn, ready to get into it.

“The first lesson,” said Grace, “is that cover is key!”

“Are we really-?!”

“Yes, we are! You can’t just rush onto the battlefield like that! That’s a good way to get your head cut off!”

“Yaz!” protested Ruby.

“So we’re going to be practicing listening in while unobserved for this afternoon!” declared Belinda. “In this exercise, we’re the bad guys and you girls are trying to gather intel on us!” The three alien women then pulled out their transformation seeds.

“White Empress Rose of Light, I desire to bloom!” called out Wilma.

“Gray Empress Rose of Balance, I desire to bloom!” announced Grace.

“Black Empress Rose of Darkness, I desire to bloom!” finished Belinda. Their transformation seeds grew larger and enveloped the three, then the seeds became rosebuds, then the buds each opened into a white rose, a gray one, and a black one as the three women each leapt out of the roses in their full Cosmic Rose getup.

“Since we’re bad guys,” said Wilma, “we’ll skip the intros.”

“So…come and find us, heroes!” challenged Belinda as her scarf wrapped around her and her friends and took them elsewhere.
